Truckee Hobart Mills shooting area clean up

Another clean up day at Hobart, got some help from another shooter Dave. Only complain I had is why people bring their TVs and kitchen sink out there to shoot them up. Leave them there and is hard to clean them up.

It's not just Hobart. People bring trash out to Boca, though probably not quite as much as at Hobart.

Some shooters think nothing of shooting off a couple hundred dollars worth of ammunition in a single range session but they can't seem to spend ten bucks and an hour making themselves a target frame. These same folks are going to scream loudest when trashed shooting ranges get shut down.

That is a true statement, hopefully the HB range will not close due to junks people bring out to shoot.

Positive developments @ Hobart......

Hi all! First post here. I want to pass on some encouraging developments at the HM shooting area.

Quickie backstory.....I'm a long long time shooter and reloader but have had a 15 year layoff for various reasons. Recent developments have caused me to return to shooting as a hobby as well as the obvious "social" reasons. I made my first foray with my first new gun in at least 18 years to the HM range about 6-7 weeks ago. To my disgust, I saw immense amounts of garbage littering the the field. As I have in the distant past at the Boca range, I took it upon myself to start hauling the crap in. Over 5-6 visits, the trash pile that I hauled in grew to pretty impressive proportions. But....a positive thing developed.

Over a few weeks, it was apparent to me that others were starting to "get the message" Folks other than myself were hauling in the crap. I talked to others when they were around and offered them targets when they were scrambling in the garbage. I explained the situation and apparently at least some have taken the hint. The crap is still there but at least now, I'm not the only one hauling it in. In addition, someone has come in within the last weeks and removed at least half of the "trash mountain"

There will always be those slobs that shoot at garbage and leave it. But there are some that can can embrace the "leave it better than you found it" mantra. To the latter, I say thanks for the help at Hobart and hopefully our number will grow.
