Also consider reusable/washable filters such as a K&N for your car.
You do need to have the oil to "renew" them after a proper washing, but a small can of oil provides quite a few renewals, and in a pinch you could get away with a substitute, or no oil at all, for at least long enough for a bug-out.

This is why I stopped using them years ago. I told a Wix rep I was using them on my truck to get higher air flow. He told me you get higher air flow because they have bigger holes and let more crap through with the extra air. That said, it may not be a bad thing to have on hand for SHTF where you may need something renewable.
