Alright Darklyte27,
For something different I took out my M1 Garand on a breezy day. Here's 8 Greek 150 grainers from my service grade Springfield at 100 yards iron sighted, and rested on my range bag: ![]() For comparison this is 10 90 grain Speer TNT hand loads out of my 16" 6.8SPC AR shot at 100 yards using a Leupold 3-9x40 Mark AR scope, and a bipod: ![]() |

These are from my most recent trip to the range. I was sighting in a new rifle/scope.
100yds Rem 700 .300 Win Mag (standard trigger, standard light profile tapered barrel) 180gr Nosler handloads Shepherd P3, 3-10x 40 scope shot off of bipod and rear bag ![]()

I got to the range yesterday. My first time trying to shoot at 100 yards. accuracy seems reasonable i guess(??). my trigger is so HEAVY. so i guess the next item to get is a geissele SSA trigger. ohh, and a few rounds of match ammo.
This target is from a couple of five shot strings of fire. My front sight post was actually the same size if not BIGGER than the black circle i was aiming at. ![]()

Ok, I've got a question for you guys.
How long do you wait between shots when you're going for tight groups? Does it depend on what you're shooting semi-auto vs. bolt action? If you're going for the tightest groups possible, do you stop when you notice an expansion in group size or change in POI vs. POA or ??? I'm just wondering; then I may have a legitimate contribution to the thread next time I make it to a range. |

The above 10-shot was fired in about 30 seconds. This was roughly 30 min into the range session, preceded by constant firing. So the barrel was already fairly hot. The only rest it got was during range clears.
I do know that heat causes the barrel to perform differently but I simply ignored it for that string. I've read an article somewhere that analyzed heat effects on different rifle barrels. Basically they got all random results based on differences in manufacturer product and materials. Short of that, I know hot is bad (generally) for tight groups. But it works for me. |

Was supposed to go to the tactical shoot today but got bad directions so me and a friend went to ASR instead
I brought only my Remmington 700 SPS in .223 winds were very heavy today and this is how it shot at 100 from the prone possition ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Overall I am happy with the groups considering the wind today wasnt sub MOA but most of my groups were within an inch and all things considered I would say thats some damned fine shootin

Thanks. One of these days I'm going to pony up for a precision, scoped rig and give that kind of shooting a try.
It's typical of what the guys shooting High Power use -- WOA service rifle upper (20-inch stainless bull barrel, 1:7 twist), with RRA 2-stage trigger. Plus my reloads. |

The target. 100 yds w/ 70's era Romanian surplus 8mm Mauser.
![]() The rifle. Wise Lite Arms M53. ![]() Ran like a top, no problems whatsoever. Every round fed & ejected as it was supposed to. Only problem was my shoulder. Still hurts 2 days later now. Also, the only comment I got on it was one guy asking me "Why would you buy that? Just to punch paper?" All I can think is, why wouldn't someone buy a belt-fed gun? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Promised I would post pictures when I got a chance to shoot my re-weld Yugoslavian M-70 with new green mountain barrel, and Aimpoint Comp ML3 red dot.
Today was that day, and although a bit windy I still did fairly well factoring in Wolf Military Classic 124gr FMJ, and me behind the sight holding the rifle :P Shot 10 shot groups. Group 1 (Measured 3MOA. one shot on top of target): ![]() Group 2 (Measured 2.5 MOA): ![]() Not bad for an AK on a windy day IMHO. The rifle: ![]() Last edited by nicoroshi; 05-31-2010 at 8:02 PM.. |

Another .81 inch group from a couple weekends ago, details all the same as my previous posts:
![]() There's some vertical stringing going on here though. I was letting the front post bleed a little further into the bull with each shot, I think. |

1st one is my XR100 (with dirt cheap Tasco 6-24) that I sold to a Calguns member. I am shooting at 100yrds. The 2nd is my shots with my refinished M44 standing and sitting and NO bayo extended at 100yrds.

If you are good with iron sights, what's the need for a red dot scope?
It won't make you any better, just possibly quicker target aquirements. I've had several types and each one left me wondering when the batteries would go south. Also, in outside in greatly changing lights, it's sometimes hard to pick up, for me. I ended up with cross hairs in mil dot patterns. Always there, no matter what kind of day. Also handy to estimate ranges. Can't do that with a red dot. You will land on something that suits you, sooner or later. Stay safe. Last edited by daveyshooter; 11-24-2011 at 9:57 AM.. |

Is the accustrut a tensioner that pushes or pulls against the gas block?

No, it is essentially a barrel weight that dampens barrel harmonics when firing and increases barrel rigidity. It also has some heat absorbing properties as well.

Yesterday was the first time I took my Remington beyond 100 Yrds:
![]() This was at 150 Yrds using 150 Gr Federal PSP .308. The shots trailing to the right were me starting to flinch (this was the last 20 rounds of a 40 round session). ![]() I was using my Remington 700 SPS-V, Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 and a Harris 6-9 bipod, no sandbags. ![]()

Took my lightweight carbine made up of mostly DPMS, M1S, and Surplus parts out last weekend and was pleasantly surprised with the accuracy I was getting with PPU "M193" ammo.
Some 10 shot 100 yard groups off of sandbags. The lightweight barrel got hot pretty fast, and the groups grew pretty noticeably as the barrel warmed up. ![]() Not too bad for a inexpensive M1S 16" 1-9 twist chrome-moly lightweight barrel. ![]()

This was my first time shooting her(or any bolt gun for that matter). I measured edge to edge not center to center.
5 shots at 100 yards .806 - .308 = .494 ![]() load was 46.6 gr of h380, lapua brass, winchester primers, 168 gr sierra that my co worker loaded for me before I learned how to reload. |

This is the best 5-shot group I was able to shoot today, at 100 yards:
![]() And this is what I was shooting: ![]() Ammo used was Black Hills 77gr Match .223, rifle has an 18" WOA SPR barrel with rifle-length gas. Glass is the Super Sniper 3-9x42 FFP. Around 3/4 MOA with a crappy stock trigger, I'm very happy with that. ![]() Last edited by jpopfan; 09-21-2010 at 7:18 PM.. |

i shot a few rounds this morning before napping for my graveyard shift at work...
i made a 3 shot group at 100 yards at the Richmond Rod and Gun Club. i used a Remington 700 Target Tactical in .308 Win. i used my own handloads with Sierra Match King 175-grain BTHPs, 42.8 grains of IMR-4064 (2600 FPS), Remington Brass, CCI Large Rifle primers. it was fun! first time in my life i've ever shot a centerfire rifle at less than 1/2 MOA @ 100 yards!!! ![]() ![]()

Thanks. Hopefully I can start to reload soon, ammo is expensive when you want to shoot a lot.
