If they stuck to the DCM one in a lifetime rule, most of the M1s would have been destroyed. As to the "entitlement" mentality, I don't see anything entitled about paying for as many as you can get. This is America, and sad for you, but it's still a capitalist society. I have no problem with making sure that everybody has an equal shot at getting one. Set the limit at one then. To say that someone has an entitlement mentality because they can afford one and you can't...that makes you the entitled one.

Just because we the taxpayers of America have already paid for the guns to be manufactured, shipped overseas, and shipped back again and all that time paying for the maintenance and storage =$$$ , doesn't necessarily mean we're going to get any deals like you would hope.
The CMP organization needs to make money to pay all its employees and keep their program running.

I think they might also consider the fact that it would hurt other US-based 1911 manufacturers currently selling their product, if they sell tens of thousands a year at only $200.

They already said rack grades will start at $1000.

My thoughts are 1911's will be available in 12 - 18 months ( best case).
AS stated by the CMP , prices start at $1000 and if my memory is correct a limit of one per year. Now I believe that limit was announced when it was thought that there was only going to be a max of 10,000 a year transferred to the CMP. Not sure how that might change if all the rumored 200,000 are transferred at once.

Now the other interesting bit of trivial I kinda remember reading somewhere on the CMP boards was that the CMP already has some unknown qty 1911's in storage.

Guys lets just be glad that the obama embargo is over and there is some rational thinking about firearms on the federal level once again. We still have our issues on the home front but in Washington things are swinging back to neutral once again.

$1,000.00 seems high for a rack grade. I see these guns go at auction for less than that and some are in very good shape.

I think these were "paid for" long before we were born and a taxpayer we're only Paying the storage fees, which ain't cheap either.
I thought $1000 was the starting point mentioned by CMP, anything good will go on the auction block and one report of a "lookie what I got" on the Forums will only enhance the feeding frenzy for these over priced pistols once they FINALLY get the sales up and running, there will be no lack of buyers, especially depending on purchasing limits and collectors & resellers ability to get their hands on them.

Yeah, I would assume $1k minimum. The "already paid for them" doesn't fly, the CMP is an elaborate fundraiser for the shooting sports that just happens to redistribute firearms.

Reasonable?? What is reasonable to you may not be to the next person. CMP owes you or me nothing. Anything they sell or has sold is always under street prices anyway.
They are not here to supply you or anyone else with cheap firearms. Their charter by Congress is to promote firearms safety and shooting sports through the "sales" of firearms etc. If you really cared anything about CMP and their mission you would want to see everything they have sold for the highest price possible to promote their Charter

so easily mixed —-turning a nice collectible into a pile of parts. Any pistol

For those of us who compete at matches, that's not a problem, your club is probably an affiliate. For those who don't, just get the garand collectors magazine and you're done.

Grading is not only cosmetic but also overall condition. Parts wear, bore condition, correctness ,etc

I saw hundreds of 1911A1s in my time in the Army and none of them were 'collector grade'. They had all been rebuilt and repaired over the decades and were mixed parts. Occasionally I'd get a 1911 updated to A1 standards

Two things will happen IMO on the sale of these 1911's

A) People will go "OMG a $1000 for a beat to hell 1911 , I am not going to do it.

B) There will still be a HIGH demand and a lottery system will be in place.

Think back to the last M1 carbine offering. There where enough orders the first day that they where sold out. This will hopefully put some downward pricing pressure for the 1911's in the used market to the point where I could get a decent one without breaking the bank.

Actually, the bigger difference between the CMP and 'Buds' is that for anybody else, you don't have to traipse down to the local notary public to get your purchase form notarized.
The notarized certification is only valid for 3 years, so unless you're buying a lot of guns from the CMP, it feels like you have to have every or every second purchase form notarized.

You know the MSRP on a brand new Colt Government was $440 in 1987? I got a RR for $100 in 1981. Great deals if you live close to Camp Pendleton

When I was a Marine MP 40 years ago. We had 150 in our armory and they were beaters. I already have a USGI and its an actual Colt. So I will pass on it.

Its not is it a beater...it's is it genuine USGI with a history. All M1 carbines are pretty much beaters, some are just rarer beaters than others and some are less beat than others...or more correct.

hey, I don't like shooting 45 acp but if I can get a genuine issues 1911 I will lay out the cash to do so. Its military history.
