I just bought one. on order right now, waiting for it to ship. bought it in 6.5CM.
I can't compare with the DT (But have read very good things about it). My Neighbor let me shoot his, and i had to have one. |

If you are comparing a HTI to a mrad it's a different beast. O don't believe the mrad shoots 50 cal, .375 Chey Tac and above.
The SRS will shoot .338 Norma mag all the way down to .223 all in one chassis... for 3400 you can find whole rifles for 4000 easily My wife thinks I only have 3 guns |

An MRAD is the last gun on my list of wants. It's there because it is modular, seemingly well built, and it has a coolness factor that only Barrett can produce. But as far as high end bolt action rifles go, I'd rather build a light weight long range rifle off of a Defiance Machine Deviant action for mountain hunting before I spent that same $10k on a range toy. Just my two cents.

So my Barrett is home finally. The over all, I don't think it can be any where near AI in term of quality, design and finish. However , I think it's quality is better than DT though. The action is not as smooth as AI

Also, which barrel profile and length did you get? I tried to get the Heavy Barrel but only the fluted was available. VEry interested in the Proof Research barrels but @ +$2000 for the kit...ouch. |

Only 24'', they only made 24'' barrel I think. My 300 WM is proof research carbon barrel. The 7mm is just regular fluted one and 24''.

I haven't removed the barrel yet to check that. Mine is a 22" 308. I was looking to buy the 338 but I couldn't pass on the sale europtics had on it. When I buy the 338 conversion, I'd be even with having just one caliber at full retail price.

I'm very impressed with the color options. I usually default to black for my rifles and pistols because I perceive black to be the least flamboyant of the typical color patterns. Not with the MRAD. The grey and bronze look amazing on this rifle!

I think Barrett makes great guns. They serve their purpose. I went with the Desert Tech SRS-A1 and I'm so happy with the rifle. I won a match with it today in Avenal. I don't have a Barrett MRAD, so I can't testify to them both.
My guess is, they are both outstanding platforms. If you want to compete, I would definitely go with the Desert Tech. Also, be aware, the Desert Tech is a bullpup design. I LOVE mine. I'm also a little biased. Oh yeah, the big difference is you can shoot 338 Lapua Magnum to .223 Remington with the Desert Tech SRS. With the MRAD, I think you're limited to one bolt face, unlike the Desert Tech where you can use most bolt faces. Last edited by Sir Toast; 06-18-2017 at 7:38 PM.. |

I went tp the Barrett website a month ago about 30 times in 3 days-- my eyes were on the grey 98b in .308 w 20" barrel. Loved the look and around $2k cheaper than MRAD. Europtics had it on their site for around $3,700 I believe.
Fell in love w the looks and figured Barrett had to make solid bolt action. Ended up finding a great deal on brand new Defiance Deviant action in a AICS 2.0 chassis put together by custom shop w Bartlein barrel on For Sale section here though and jumped on it for a price could not pass up. Those Barretts are REALLY nice though. The MRAD is a dream. More pics of MRADs please!!! |

I remember they had that sale going, did you get the 10% discount if you pay by e-check (not sure if it's applied with rifle).
Did you get the gen 2 one with small breach? or the first gen one? J |

I didn't get any additional discounts other then a deal on the atlas bipod. It was manufactured in the beginning of January 2017 (Can't remember the exact date) but for whatever reason they didn't do the lighting cuts on the rifle. I couldn't justify the extra 2k for the cosmetic difference. It is the small breach.

Can't comment on the MRAD, but I picked up a 98B in 300 win mag and it's a fine shooter. While I like the ability to shoot different calibers, I'm not sure if it'll hold up in the long-term. I've had people tell me get a rifle that does one thing very well instead of one that does everything okay, i.e. jack of all trades.
Although, it'll be much cheaper to get a MRAD/DT SRS A1 in 338, 300 win mag, 6.5 CM, and 308 with one really nice glass versus a rifle in each caliber and a NF on each one. That gets expensive fast...and makes you get a bigger safe. |

HJ, did your Larue mount lock on to the rail easily? Or there was some effort to lock it down? I have the same Larue mounts on my AR's but the lever is pretty stiff, however on the MRAD it was real "light" feeling. although there doesn't seem to be any play or loose.

I didn't have any of that issue, the mount locks on the rail pretty easy, nothing is loose or stiff.

It won't be close to an AI. The only really good barrels I've ever had that come out shooting are AI, Sako TRG, and Anschutz. Other higher priced rifles will shoot well once you put on a new barrel. The American labels seem to need a bit of gunsmith work, which is probably why most people just go custom.

So I gotta chance to take the MRAD out and we had steel targets out @ 500yards, 600, 700, 800, 930 and 1200.
out to 930yrds were 1st shot hits. @ 1200 I hit 1 outta 5 on the 3rd shot ![]() 1st time shooting past 400yards. it was morning around 9am. 70*F no wind. I didn't get a chance to shoot long, within the hour the sun came up, temp shot up and mirage. ammo i used was hornady 140gr eld-m 81500. |
