Got to take a look at it this weekend and it really does look nice and sounds like the plan is still to open in the next few weeks, so Feb might still be a reality.
However, it sounds (and looks) like it will be 100y rifle only, no more short range rimfire at all. I was under the impression that there would still be some of that possible, but from what I was told, it will be rifles @100 only

Great news. I don't mind 100 only.

Gose, Short range rimfire is available but to Members Only on weekend mornings. Once a month we hold .22LR pistol matches (Olympic/NRA style).

Will that be shot from down range of the benches, or still from flthe benches with targets posted at 25 instead of 100?

As a member of the club, I agree. We want it to open ASAP. But bear in mind the estimate of 6 months was the estimate we were given by the county and their contractor.

So here's some good news. Because of the huge changes to the site, the Sherif's Range Master requires we have a whole new set of Safety Procedures and Operations set up and certified. The club's Range Officers (myself included) are going through 3 days of training this month. After we get the stamp of approval from the Range Master, they'll open the range up. So soon.

Because public target shooting is not an "essential service or activity" the Club RSOs can't meet at the range to get trained, certified, or iron out operations until AFTER the Governor and the Mayor drop the COVID-19 emergency restrictions.

While we do NOT know anything for certain, our goals are to keep most things the same:
• Membership will not be required to shoot on public evenings
• The public will be allowed on M, W, F evening (hours TBD)
• 100yrd targets with rifles only (no pistols)
• Ammo will be limited to calibers smaller than 50BMG
• No black powder
• No shotguns

When that will happen is anybody's guess now with the Pandemic. All I can offer is my general advice in our current climate: keep your Go-Bags ready, your powder dry, and help your friends and neighbors get through this. Use this opportunity to show your non-shooting friend how important 2A rights are in protecting our civil-liberties and in keeping order should SHTF.

I would add that steel case or steel core ammos are not allowed.

They want to keep the new bullet stop in good condition.

They check the ammo when you check in with magnet. Anything sticks will need to stay in your car.

From what I've been told, the approval process through the County is glacier slow. The Club has submitted our first draft of proposals for range-rules based on the new layout but we've been waiting for County feedback. We want it opened soon too.

I hear the County has a June date in mind but they haven't shared any concrete dates with the Club. Sorry, I don't have any further info to share.

Yeah, they stopped that way back in 1990s.

The story goes, some Karen found a live round out way past the backstop, etc. Panic ensued because "centerfire handguns were not handled by the backstop", etc.

Back in mid-80s shot my first 357 there. There was that crusty ol' Marine that ran the range and ran a pretty tight ship. I remember him looking at a friend's AK that wouldn't lock back on empty and he started out, "F****ng' foreign rifles..." and another minute of cussing.

Loved Shark Park too. Damned hillside joggers and their bitchin' & moaning.

...
Speaking of 'Karens', there's at least one "neighbor" who lives in one of the apartment complexes on the other side of the golf course, who would file noise reports about the range to the City Council (probably supported by a Anti-2A organization) trying to shut it down.

I sent an email a couple of months ago, no response. Their calendar and blog posts show that they are doing events, but nothing with regards to general public.

We're still waiting for a few things to happen from the County officials who want public shooters to use an online reservations system they're building. The Club members will get trained on how to use it and sign-in the public. We've also gotten approval from Calguns and they've given the club its own forum to post public range info. I will post more news as it gets related to me from the Club https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...play.php?f=450

??? They stopped because of that, how tf does that make sense? No chronographs in the 90s?

To clarify, you mean she found (or claimed to have found) a complete unfired cartridge and tried to say it was a fired round that got past the backstop? That's what I had heard. She had complete ignorance of what she was saying and still the range bent over backwards for her

I believe the County has starting testing of the online reservation system, so that's good news. But they may need to redo the RSO booth because they did a sound test 2 weeks ago and found that rifle fire noise was at an unsafe sound level for anybody inside without earpro. I'm hoping we get to shoot centerfire again this year so I don't have to drive down to Santa Clara anymore.

There were a couple of members there a few weeks ago, so looks like they are allowed to shoot there at least
