Default Coyote Point Range Progress.

Coyote Point range has been closed for a few months now for complete renovation. There are some pictures on their website of of beginning construction, but no updates.

Anyone have information as to the progress of the renovation?
Approximately when will the range reopen to the public?

Was there a few weeks ago and they had started to pour concrete.
No idea when or if it will reopen to the public.

In October the sheriff's range master told me 6 months minimum, before they are ready to go.

Progress is being made, slightly ahead of schedule. I'll try to get over there in the next week and get more updated pictures. Construction crews are a little touchy due to liability issues.

The SO is going to have a really nice facility when it's all said and done.

So this range is rimfire only now?

This range left a bad taste in my mouth a few years back when the range master had to push the mag release on all my AR pattern rifles to make sure they have bullet button installed. Also shooting through a glory hole wasn't very fun.

I haven't had this experience, but I can agree that the glory holes aren't practical at all. I can't even see what their benefit is. Typically I come here to shoot rimfire anyawy.

on centerfire;
see below, emphasis mine

thanks for posting updates folks, what are your sources of information? Does anyone know why the range construction is happening, what they're changing, etc? shooting rimfire here on summer evenings is so great, there are no other outdoor ranges around, I really hope it opens to the public again soon.

Well, they always had high power rifle 100 yards. That's the glory hole part. I called them mail slots. And yes, it was a joke, really stupid design that made relatively no sense. Maybe prevented people form going prone or standing up? That's the only thing I can think of.

The range always has an air of strictness, so many people there seem to be fixated that the Sheriff's office is 20 feet away. Been yelled at for putting up more than 1 bullseye once, but nothing other than that in 20 years shooting there.

I think some range officals might be more associated with the LEO side, and they are there outside of the public shooting side? Or maybe LEO hopefuls?

I drove by the park entrance once. I never went in, but do you have to pay to get into the park and then pay to use the range?

I was told that the barrier at the benches was to keep muzzle blast down range.

No, the little hut was just there, it seemed to serve no purpose. All I did for the last 20 years was say "range" and they just wave you through. Maybe the golfers had to pay?

Rimfire pistol only. No steel cased ammo. I'd like to check this place out but these rules suck.

I thought it was no steel core permitted? I would always shoot my mosin and sks here but since that rule was enacted I have stopped going. It's a shame because it was the perfect little range to go to after work.

I also wonder why the no centerfire pistol rule was enacted? Any insiders know? I can't think of a reason.

I am confused, are they closing the high power rifle range? It's rimfire pistols only but you can still shoot CF rifles right?

I was there a month before it closed and no mention of steel core. Are they magnet checking now?

They've always been allowing centerfire rifles. If they close the centerfire rifle range after the updates, then that will be a new thing. I am pretty sure they intend to keep that going.

I was there quite a while ago and they did not allow me to shoot my surplus x54R and my steel core x39. I do remember that they asked what I was shooting. After hearing that I was shooting a mosin and an SKS they probably figured I had some steel core.

I emailed the club recently and received a reply -

"Hi, Unfortunately its not going to be July 2017 - that was very early estimate. In fact we don't know when the range will reopen."

... So, sadly, not the news we were hoping for. But at least they're not completely gone! I'll post back here if I get any further updates!

They posted up photos on Facebook of a new $8M indoor facility they're building. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coyot...63166863734273

Looks nice. Looks like tech yuppies have invaded and are going to hike the price to a zillion dollars? Well, maybe not, hopefully.

If they get rid of the 100 yard range I will be very sad. Hard to believe 100 can be indoor.

... well, apparently the $8M renovation was funded by 2 private donors. Maybe some rich techies?

Anyway, it's now 8/30/17 and no update on their website.

This a puzzling, no plan for what they are changing on the public range and no schedule? Someone must know what's going on there? Or is it some sort of way to quietly permanently close the range?
