Thanks. I kind of stopped posting because of this. We do need to vent imo. What's sad is most here are law abiding citizens, we want to obey the law but the doj has done everything to turn gun owners into criminals. For every negative isolated situation it's an opportunity for more gun laws it seems. Main thing is to keep your cool and hope things get better with trump in office. Or start peaceful protests with signs and speakers.

I saw the "rope necklace" thread as it was unfolding, and the troll clearly overreacted and blew it all out of proportion. It was not that the user who said "rope necklace" wasn't being provocative, but it sure wasn't anywhere near what the troll amped it up to be.

It reminded me of some of the Social Justice Warriors purposefully trolling Trump supporters, then perhaps the Trump supporter pushes the SJW out of his face, and the SJW falls down screaming, "MY ARM, HE BROKE MY ARM!"

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration in regards to the "rope necklace" troll, but only a tiny bit of an exaggeration. It is possible the troll really felt threatened and was not faking it. But either way, the threat was completely in the mind of the troll.

As far as deleting posts, I recall once typing in a subject regarding a firearm related question in the search bar, only to have my earlier post on Calguns appear in the Google search results. Seems that, at that time at least, every post made on Calguns was available by searching Google. I even found one result of a non-firearm presentation to a commission I made professionally prior to my retirement, years before, and that one was never disseminated on the Internet.

Google sometimes caches things so they show up even if they were deleted. There is also a site I believe that is called archive.org or something like that where you put in a date and a website and it will tell you what it looked like on that day. It is interesting to surf CGN from 10+ years ago. I miss the way the site was back then.

OK, I'm an old guy that thinks people that post that kind of stuff are a bit juvenile. I'm also a ret LEO that knows how the political pendulum swings and sees how this stuff plays right in to the liberals' agenda. We are a minority that is continuing to shrink. I've worked task force ops w/ many agencies, including ATF ('88-'94), and while some of them are good cops, others follow that big government drumbeat to climb that ladder. I troll several different gun & preparedness web sites and I cringe at stuff I see. Last year I built AR's for my kids here in Cali to get in before the cut-off, schooled them on the new laws and negative public opinion we draw. We take others shooting w/ us (at the ever decreasing ranges) to get them involved, who in turn may get others involved, until we're not such a minority here. During the last "election chaos", the rear window of my truck was busted, right where my NRA sticker was. It's a political statement for me to show it, but now its on my bumper, at eye level for every driver. We've got to be smart to turn this around.

Default Ranger295 and Calguns position.

Ranger295, thank you for posting Calguns position so clearly. I am curious to know if Calguns has ever considered relocating their server to a location where you and the rest of us might be better protected?

It's so sad to see that in my life time we even have to talk of moving anything to another country to protect our first amendment right while trying to protect our second amendment rights.

I very much appreciate Calguns efforts to provide a safe community to share our thoughts, questions, and concerns.

I'm guessing that moving the Server to another location or another country would not make it any less open to access by the NSA or other government entity. If it hasn't happened already someone in authority will classify CalGuns as an actual or potential violent actor/terrorist threat and then all constitutional rights to privacy are made null.

As has always been the case, do not post online anything you wouldn't want to share with local, state, or federal law enforcement.

It would do very little if anything to protect us. It could actually hurt us. Certain international communications are not subject to the same 4th amendment protections. Also, as long as the owner of the site stays here then he/the company would be subject to subpoena and possibly even the staff members.

My original statements are still very relevant. We are being watched by law enforcement. In some cases there are multi year stings that have been/are being conducted on here. This is not speculation, it is fact. Be careful what you say. Be careful especially in the marketplace. Do not do any transactions that are not strictly legal. The person you are doing a transaction with may not be a friendly CalGunner but rather an undercover LEO... even if they have a bunch of positive I-trader ratings

I would hope and humbly ask that IF the gov't comes along and subpoenas you to investigate particular Calguns users, you please consider announcing such events publicly, as Reason Magazine did when the feds tried to uncover a few commenters joking about feeding a federal judge into a wood chipper, Fargo-style AND tried to gag Reason Magazine about it:

https://popehat.com/2015/06/08/depar...-at-reason-com

Reason Mag. handled it really well. They cooperated with the feds as much as they had to and then blew the story up into national outrage over the quashing of free speech:

http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...ason-magazine/

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/artic...on-free-speech

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed...628-story.html

http://iwf.org/blog/2797386/First-Am...39;-Identities

The gag order was found to be exceptionally flimsy:

https://popehat.com/2015/07/09/what-...ifully-little/

As they say, "sunlight is the best disinfectant."

Reason Mag. took a big gamble--they could've quietly gone along with the feds, which would have led to the feds coming back again and again for more info on users shooting the breeze in their comments section, but by blowing the whole thing wide open and garnering national support from liberals and conservatives alike, they sent a clear message to the feds that they'll have to be very careful and thorough the next time they come after a commenter.

It seems like more and more of our justice system is becoming secret to the people--secret FISA courts, secret terrorist watchlists, secret gun owner databases, etc. We're losing control of our gov't bit by bit.
Very interesting, thanks for posting.

We truly live under an authoritarian regime of full control, so far away from the Constitution and Bill of Rights.... the Oaths many have taken to uphold them are nothing but a drowned and meaningless words at this point in time. We are so lost it is sickening.

As it stands it is not the only goal, the goal is to criminalize all Americans. Currently our 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendment Rights have been suspended due to the Patriot/Freedom Act, NDAA 2012, and now we have Portman-Murphy and based on the 2nd post in this thread, our 1st is kaputt.

We are to live in fear of our government, to pay taxes and bow before them as subservient slaves, never to raise a hand to question their absolute power and corruption.

Anyone ever read or follow Larkin Rose, he's got it down. Watch his low budget documentary "It Can't Happen Here". He also tried to fight the IRS and the nonexistent income tax laws, judge colluded with the IRS and sent him to jail for a year.

Okay I'm gonna go have a beer and think happy thoughts.

I actually went back through the guy's iTrader to see if I had been one of his customers (because nobody has been bothered to leave me iTrader since 2011)... I picked up a Mossy 500 a while back PPT through Pasadena Turners, and bought some HST .45 in the Westfield parking lot. I had no concerns about the Henry I PPTd in San Diego.

But no... I'm not on his customer list.

This one should not be an issue for any of his customers. It looks like all they can nail him on potentially is too many transactions in a year... basically allegedly dealing without a licence.

I wasn't worried... all of my transactions have been legal.

I was just curious if I had met the guy.
