AAR - 04/12/2015 Garand Clinic/Match

It was great to meet each of you at the match, and I hope that you had a great time and will be back for more. The Southern Cal Golden Bears Highpower club hosted the clinic, and we have our club matches on the third Sunday of the month. Check out our website at www.goldenbears.org for more information. The CMP (www.thecmp.org) provides the framework for running these clinics and matches. There are CMP matches in the local area throughout the year with a match happening at Camp Pendleton ( www.smgunclub.org) and Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club (www.brrc.org) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. These matches will be shot at 200 yards with the targets being twice the size of the ones we used.

The weather was nearly perfect, and I was most impressed with the way shooters on the line were safely handling their rifles and didn't need to be reminded to not touch the equipment during the line breaks. Everybody was using their Empty Chamber Indicators and properly grounding and securing their rifles after finishing the stages allowing us to complete the match on time. With varying skill levels came varying scores, and I saw coaches helping to improve positions and getting shooters improving with each stage. The Offhand stage is often called the "awful hand" stage, and it presented a challenge. Some shooters found it easier as it's more comfortable and in some ways more natural. Good shooting by all and a great start in the world of highpower shooting.
