Mines came and it was a Rand slide and colt frame. 1940

Perfect timing as my CMP M1 came in also.

Just got the call from CMP this morning. Interestingly, they mentioned that the Field, Rack, and Range grades were still available. I decided to move forward with a Field grade and will keep my fingers crossed that it will be in similar condition as others on this thread.

My RNG number is 35,350.

Absolutely thrilled!

Awesome! I am less than 1000 away! Are you in California? Californians reporting in the CMP forum that range grade hasn’t been offered and the CMP said they were seeking guidance from the ATF about the C&R status for these modded pistols.

Yes, in CA. That is why I was surprised that CMP mentioned Range grade as one of the grades available to order. I would have gone with Service grade if it was still in stock, but MattB brought up some interesting points about the merit of Range grade.

We'll see how it goes. I am just grateful that I actually got the opportunity to order from this round since I missed the 1st and 2nd.

There’s been a few range grades in the CMP forums that have their foia results showing they were actually in SF line companies.

Good to know. I appreciate the follow-up and FOIA information. CMP shipped my 1911 today, so we'll see what arrives.

Just got my RNG number a week ago. 37912. I'm assuming May or June is when I'll get the call.

Hopefully rack or field grades will still be available by then.

I believe they constantly replenish the supply of Service and Field grades as they restore them from extra parts. Not %100 sure though.

I don't believe they are restoring any of these guns, they are being shipped to collectors exactly as they arrived from the military. That is a big part of the allure of these pistols.

They do not open and grade 10,000 pistols at once, they do them in small batches. What is happening is they keep opening and grading new crates of pistols and that is what replenishes the supply of service grades. Over in the main thread we have behind the scenes pictures and NRA articles about this.

You get them as they receive them. They aren’t building them like they do with the M1 garands. They open a box, grade them and sell them. When the box is empty they open another one and repeat. There may be 0 of a certain grade in there.

Picked up my CMP Field Grade M1911A1 today. I have not field stripped it yet to go over it in detail, but I am really pleased. Remington Rand frame with a Union Switch & Signal slide.

As another CalGunner posted in another thread, US&S made 55,000 1911s. It is no Singer, but still cool. It has the “P” proof stamp on the top of the slide in front of rear sight, which means the slide was made from 1082000 to the end of production.

It looks like it has original finish. It is great to own a piece of history. Looking forward to cleaning it and putting some rounds down range.

Beautiful pistol!! What a score, MC.

The Field grades in this thread look great. Way better than my Service grade from the first round.

Thanks joefrank64k. When I got my RNG I was hoping for a Service Grade, but MattB kind of changed my thinking. I would have been hesitant to move forward with anything below Service Grade, but now I am glad I went with the Field Grade.

My experience with CMP has a been completely positive. Are you going to keep yours as a safe queen, or are you going to get it out to the range?

You will be getting that call soon! If you get a call from Monique Almond from Alabama, take that call!

I am looking forward to hearing about your 1911.

Completely agree with you Enzo rules. Once you get a chance to hold them in person, even the little nicks or whatnot are "features" rather than "bugs".

I am really glad I had a chance to get in on the 3rd drawing.

The CMP is awesome. I went there a few years ago for the Advanced Maintenance class where you get to build an M1 Garand and take it home. Fantastic experience.

My Service Grade has been sitting in its CMP case for over three years now. When it got to the LGS, I opened it, went WTF?!?, and put it away.

I don’t even like looking at it, haha!!

Colt slide on a RR frame. I think the pistol is about 6” thick from all the park, haha!!

Got my call today. 36,343. Rack was the only one available. It was the one I wanted though. Probably won’t ship until Monday.

My RGN is 38460. From the looks of things on the CMP forum, I should get the call soon. Super excited about this one!

Picked up my Field Grade today! RGN 37912. Was called last Thursday 5/11 and offered Service or Field grade. Mailed my packet late November 2022. I wanted a Field grade anyways so it worked out.

1944 Colt Frame, Remington Rand Slide. Appears to have the original finish and both frame and slide have an equal amount of holster wear. Very pleased with my purchase. Was crossing my fingers to at least get a colt slide and I did! It was oiled up pretty well when I got it.

That’s a really nice combo you go there! Finish looks great and “original”.
