Default My next .22 buy

Taurus has released a TX-22 compact. Short slide and grip, only 3 rounds less than the full size and optic ready.

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the full size gun, runs unbelievable well for a 22 semi and eats any bulk ammo. For the price features and reliability it can’t be beat.

I know it will never be on the California roster, but if you can get your hands on a TX22 it’s well worth it.

The MSRP is $399 for standard models, bumping up to $469 for the Riton-included models.
$70 optic.

Has anyone done comparison between Taurus and Ruger SR22? I have latter, which is also not on roster; is it worth the trouble to track down the former?

I had a SR22 for a number of years sold it before I moved to AZ, it was a good little 22 but I like the TX22 much better. It is less ammo sensitive and doesn’t have that reverse odd safety that the SR22 has. It’s also a true striker fire gun that breaks down like a traditional firearm, no fixed barrel.

Sportsman’s Warehouse has compact model for $330, that’s about $50 more than the full size cost me. But I don’t see the price coming down any.

I’ll be keeping my full size, I’m wondering if the full size mags will work in the compact. Yes it will hang out of the bottom some but if it works like Glock mags that would be a nice bonus.

It would be very unTaurus-like for the mags not to work. They'll probably sell mag covers like they do for the G3C.

edit: the price is creeping up close to the SIG's price. I've seen them lately for $400.

Well I like the DA/SA hammer-fired features of the Ruger - and of my Walther P22 - so I guess I'll pass on the Taurus. Thanks for saving me some money and effort.

Not surprised, they are going to sell a ton of them.

Was the $400 ones with or without the RD optic. SW send me a email on the one without a RD for $330, even that seems high to me since my full size was well under $300. Might also be wise to wait and see if any bugs pop up with them, the initial release of the full size was not problem free. They had barrel leading issues(same as the P322)and also slide breakage’s, both issues were fixed, bad batch of barrels and a revamped recoil spring. Maybe since this is not a completely new design(just shrunken)it will hit the ground bug free. Really tempted to just jump on the site and order one through.

Without. SIG wouldn't put anything cheaper than a Romeo Zero on it($120).

If you're not familiar with this guy, he's an advocate of carrying .22's for self defense. So he's pretty serious about it and doesn't use a .22 just for plinking. He does the cheek pistol thing, and can shoot a Mossberg Shockwave like nobody's business.

WRT the bit at the end, yes, he has a hole in his hoodie. And he sells them.

I think I’m going to pick up this Taurus compact. Tried to find one locally yesterday but no luck. I’ll have to order it most likely.

Plenty of great reviews on this pistol. Also a good reason to swap my Holosun 507k off my 365x and install the acss Vulcan on it.

I have a lifetime of cci mini mags in my shop, but will add some Federal Punch to the mix for this one just for testing.
