Still shooting bricks of 22 ammo I bought 30 years ago---mostly Remington Golden Bullets and CCI Blazers for $8-10 a brick---my two 10-22s eat most anything as does my Nylon 66 and an old Belgium made Browning SA-22...

My bad AutoMatches were from the Obama ammo shortage era, but the ammo used in the video was from just couple of months ago. It appears the problem hasn't been fixed for a long time.

Isn’t every firearm different, even if it’s the same manufacturer and same model? OP just has to experiment and find what ammo his rifle likes. What works in my rifle may not work as well in yours, and vice versa.
There’s a difference between a rifle eating everything it’s fed and that ammo being consistently accurate. .22LR ammo is cheap. Just buy a bunch of boxes of different ammo and spend a few hours at the range and take notes. It’s not a 10/22 and it’s not a semi-auto, but Aguila Super Extra is dead-nuts accurate in my CZ 457 American (bolt action), which is my plinking and “survival” rifle. First time using it aside from zeroing it in prior to class and scored Rifleman with that set up, so whenever I see the Super Extea available and on sale I buy a bunch of it.

Tough question. I have two Ruger 10/22 and both of them eat anything on-sale.
If you want the best ammo for your Ruger then try: Lupua, Eley, SK, RWS, Wolf, I have not tried those ammo but words on the street that those ammo are good. |

These results are from some guns I had tested in 2019-2020. I don't have the guns anymore. Each gun had different preferences. They ate all the ammo just had different groupings with them. I think another 10/22 would produce different results so my results won't mean much to your gun. These were all cheap ammo at the time. I wanted to know what was the best cheap ammo I could shoot in each gun.
Ruger 10/22 Limited Edition: Good Groups: MiniMag HP, CCI SV, Fed AutoMatch, Fed Black Pack OK Groups: CCI AR Tactical, CCI Blazer, Fed Champion, Fed Fld&Range, Rem Golden Bullet Not Good Groups: Aguila SV, CCI MiniMag RN, Fed Target, Rem Thunderbolt Bad Groups: Fed RedBox, Win M22, Win USA, Win Wildcat Ruger 10/22 Takedown Lite: Good Groups: CCI MiniMag HP, CCI SV, Fed Target OK Groups: Aguila SV, CCI AR Tactical, CCI Blazer, CCI MiniMag RN, Fed Champion, Fed Fld&Range, Fed Black Pack, Rem Golden Bullet, Rem Thunderbolt, Win M22, Win USA Not good Groups: Fed AutoMatch Bad Groups: Fed RedBox, Win Wildcat As you can see one 10/22 liked Fed AutoMatch and one didn't. Same with CCI MiniMag RN, Fed Target. The ammos were from the same batch through testing with many 5 rd groups shot from each gun. Try as many different ammo as you can find for what you are willing to spend. I don't think it has to be expensive to get good results. At that time Federal and Remington were cheaper than CCI products so I usually shot them more. OK grouping ammo is good enough for plinking. The bad grouping ammo I would just keep for testing because most of the time there would be another gun down the road that would like it. On a separate note I didn't have Aguila Super Extra HV back then but have been getting good results in handguns recently. I am just starting to test handguns now and will eventually get to testing several new 10/22s and other rifles. Last edited by pinger; 01-09-2023 at 1:24 AM.. |

[QUOTE=Wordupmybrotha;27550684]I'm not the only one experiencing epic duds from AutoMatch.
[\QUOTE] I had failures to fire with Federal Bulk blue box 525/550 ammo in my S&W22-A1 but it was remedied by sticking to Automatch. My Mk IV 22/45 experiences duds with Automatch if I let it go more than 2 boxes (650 rounds) without cleaning but works just fine after cleaning the chamber. The 10/22 is 99.99% reliable with any ammo. I think the biggest cause of duds is a dirty chamber where the rim cannot sit fully in the breech. This is caused by soot buildup. When the rim hangs out by itself, a strike does not ignite the priming compound. |

Just tested a Ruger 10/22 Compact (16.1" barrel):
Very Good Groups: Aguila Super Extra HV RN, CCI SV Good Groups: Aguila Super Extra HV HP, CCI Blazer, CCI MiniMag RN, Rem Thunderbolt OK Groups: Aguila SV, CCI MiniMag HP, Fed Black Pack, Rem Golden Bullet Not Good Groups: Fed AutoMatch, Fed Champion, Fed Fld&Range Rifle ate everything tested. I did not test any Winchester products. This is a 2022 purchase and I feel it shot tighter groups than the older 10/22s from the previous post. Those previous rifles were also bought new around 2017-2018 but wasn't really happy with them and sold them because the standard TCR/22 I had out shot them. I also had a 10/22 stainless takedown that I bought used and sold back then that grouped even worse. I still have to shoot the Aguila HV rounds through the old TCR22 and post those results. Also tested a 2020 purchase TC TCR/22 Performance Center (17" Carbon Fiber barrel): Very Good Groups: CCI MiniMag HP, CCI MiniMag RN, CCI SV Good Groups: Aguila Super Extra HV HP & RN, Fed Fld&Range, Rem Thunderbolt OK Groups: CCI Blazer, Fed AutoMatch, Fed Champion, Fed Black Pack, Rem Golden Bullet No Bad Groups but would not eject Aguila SV. I did not test any Winchester products. Last edited by pinger; 01-17-2023 at 10:06 PM.. |

Your experience with CCI Standard Velocity matches with mine.
It has always given excellent performance in all of my .22 rifles. I keep other loads kicking around for various purposes (hollowpoints for shooting squirrels, for example), but CCI SV is my go-to for stockpiling target ammo. |

I have had more issues with Remington Golden, the ones that come in the bucket, and Federal Automatch.
It does pretty much eat everything else. So basically, any ammo that is cheap, so you can get LOTS of practice working your trigger and sight picture. My rifles loves the Federal Champion Bulk in the blue boxes. Maybe 1 misfire per box, but that may be because I only clean the rifle about once a year.

All of my numerous 10/22's shoot all 22lr ammo just fine. If bouncing beer cans out behind the house, thunderbolts or whatever else is the absolute cheapest. If shooting for $20 bills, buy a couple boxes of better ammo and see what shoots the best in yours. I like Wolf Match Target by the case. Good enough for me and cheaper than Tenex or RWS.

CCI has always been good to me and I recommend this ammo for basically every customer I talk to.
