Default Loaning firearms to non-residents of Idaho?

I'm probably thinking to much into this but doesn't hurt to check.

My dads a gun guy and enjoys shooting my cool "off-roster" stuff when they visit. My parents are residents of CA.

Is it legal for me to let them take a few guns to the range without me being there with them?

I tried Google for an answer but I'm coming up with nothing.

TIA!

In ID?

Seems like it’s a non-issue as long as they’re not prohibited. ID doesn’t have a registry.

As described, such a loan is not a problem in CA, either - though it's telling that they seem to need to say so ...

Quote:
27880.

Section 27545 does not apply to the loan of a firearm if all of the following requirements are satisfied:

(a) The loan is to a spouse, registered domestic partner, or any of the following relations, whether by consanguinity, adoption, or steprelation:

(1) Parent.

(2) Child.

(3) Sibling.

(4) Grandparent.

(5) Grandchild.

(b) The loan is infrequent, as defined in Section 16730.

(c) The loan is for any lawful purpose.

(d) The loan does not exceed 30 days in duration.
...
Dad can't borrow one and take it back to CA, though, per both Federal and CA laws. You didn't suggest that, but some folks wonder.

Thanks Librarian! They will not be traveling back to CA with any of my firearms. The question was strictly about them using them here in Idaho while visiting to go to the range by themselves.

As pointed out already - no such thing as an AW in Idaho. We don't have a registry, can buy and sell pretty much anything with a handshake and cash and carry, and can even own machine guns and suppressors.

Stay in your lane, and enjoy the wonderful Santa Ana's at Christmas time

We should be #1 or at least tied with Mississippi because Everytown for Gun Safety has some of its reasons wrong. Idaho is given credit for having a hate crime prohibition which is does not have. There is no prohibition for misdemeanor hate crimes and the State constitution prohibits any such law. Everytown for Gun Safety also asserts that Idaho prohibits firearms in K-12 schools which it does not flatly do, there being exceptions including being authorized by the board of trustees or governing board of the school.

There is a cure for ignorance, but in the meantime you might want to try keeping it in check.

I do remember the Christmas Santa Ana winds when I lived in Northridge nearly 50 years ago.

You’ve already gotten your answer but I’ll add this in case it comes up in the future. You can’t loan them an NFA item. ie your suppressor, sbr, machine gun or destructive device. They can shoot it all they want, but you have to be there with them. An exception would be if the items are in a trust and they are part of the trust. I’ve never ever seen anyone questioned about machine guns suppressors or sbr’s anywhere, but when you start playing with nfa stuff you have to do it by the numbers.
Take care!

I Was born in Encino, and grew up in Sepulveda (now North Hills). I left there in 1982, and vividly remember the Santa Ana's in the winter and the smog and heat in the summer.

CA weather ain't all it's cracked up to be.

I still go to The Valley to visit my brother and sister. It has become a horrible, horrible place.

I appreciate your input, Nitro. Unfortunately nothing has been approved to be released from NFA jail yet. Judging by current approval times right now, I have my fingers crossed this will apply to me by September ugh lol

I grew up in the SF Bay Area. Got the hell outa' there same year you did and moved to the DFW area for better kids' schools and better job for me. No complaints. Married an Idaho native and we moved up here in 2002.

California weather is one of the last objections to moving by those with no balls. Others include wife's family, kids schools, the beach, etc.

No problem buddy. It’ll be here before you know it. Arfcom efile form 4 wait time tracking thread is showing 8-9 months currently. I just mentioned it because while firearm loaning and selling is a non issue here, NFA stamps don’t come with legal instruction manuals and are a whole other animal. I figured if you don’t have one yet you will soon. Have a happy New Year.
