The view from little freezeout is much better. I'm glad you have no regrets. To be honest, we knew nothing about Emmett when we bought our house. God always has a way though.

For me it was early retirement severance that triggered the move. I wanted to get out because of the rising cost of living, politics, and taxes. When we left in June 2020 crime and homelessness was just starting to rise in the Rocklin/Roseville area.

I was in the process of growing my business and didn't want CA to get any of my tax revenue. So I looked for someplace that I could grow my business and that and was business friendly.

Utah provided me with incentives to move. I am grateful every day that we did.

All-gender restrooms and upcoming vaccine mandates for kids was the final straw for me

Lived in Folsom for over 30 years, and always had water alerts way before Intel setup shop and made the little city blow up, in 2016 they started talking about building on the south side of 50. (Folsom will be over 120K people in a few years)
And the fact that lawmakers were always trying to make me a felon with new laws every year. what was fine this year will get you 10 years in the poky next year.

Navy moved me to San Diego in 1995. Retired in 2001, got divorced and five years later remarried. Got the kids through high school, one married and the other joined the Air Force. Wife and I hated the cost of living, deplorable education system, taxes+taxes+taxes, anti-gun culture, and declining civil culture.

Sold the house and nearly all our worldly possessions, bought an RV and traveled the country for four years. The minute we left CA we knew we would never live there again. For a host of reasons, we settled in a small town in East Texas. We truly love it here. Took a while getting use to seeing lots of folks open carry in the grocery stores and shopping areas. No one cares! Cost of living is less, people are VERY friendly, AND everyone speaks English.

California may have been "the place" to live, but I never saw it. I just know my stress level is near zero, I'm living fairly decently on a fixed income, and we don't have to watch over our shoulder when we hear kids coming up behind us.

Just paid the CA registration for a 2012 Hyundai for one of the kids in school $203 vs $98 for a 2018 Hyundai in ID. OTOH I get so much more for the $203

Why is the kid not driving a vehicle with ID plates? In state tuition?

Dang that's way lower than what I paid in Jan '21 for my 2018 Tundra. It was $298 for two years. Registration is due in Jan so I will have to see what it is then. I always add the $10/ year state parks pass to our vehicles.

In GA, I pay the ad valorem fee (one time) on the value of the vehicle. Then it's free seeing we are veterans.

Even made an offer on a place outside Twin Falls.

I worked 14 months after we moved and commuting from Magic Valley would be a lot more difficult than TV.

There wasn't one thing and I had been entertaining leaving years and years before but it was just getting my wife on board.

Aside from the gun laws my wife had to work full time so we could pay our 1800.00 a month rent so we could live in a district with good schools. Even then there were 2 drug related murders within walking distance from my house, gangs of thieves riding bikes up and down our street doing smash and grabs, rampant homelessness with people walking up and down our street pushing shopping carts. We tried to buy but couldn't find anything in the area that we could afford or was safe.

State/County/City sponsored Covid lockdown restrictions and general insanity associated with it. Then the ensuing same BS from my company and their attempted pressuring/leveraging of me to get the jab.

For the past 18 years I had been staying here for my career and my wife's family. The dam finally broke open as a result of Covid.

So stoked to get this place behind me!!

My final straw leaving the company I worked for 16 years, our woke CEO sent out an email blast saying he was "saddened and heartbroken" that Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty and went on a long rant about Jan 6 "insurrection" I now work for another woke company but at least the top bosses are veterans and they are honest about woke, disagree but have to follow policy.

Reading some of the posts I am glad I was never like many of the bosses some have had to endure. I never ask, nor have I ever sent out an email with an opinion on happenings or politics.
I am a business owner, custom fabrication for the military, law enforcement, and fire. Over the past 10-15 years the regulations have kept piling on and increasing costs, only to be insulted with higher taxes. I was going to sell the business or close the doors and retire. While I am the boss, I always like the challenge of fabricating, the excitement of a new contract and it's challenges, so retirement for me is probably a death sentence. I have never sat still in my life. My wife and I raised 6 kids in Cali, most of them moved out years ago. The plan to retire and build a house on a few acres was put into motion, until I decided not to retire. My wife and I discussed it, and looked at moving the business out of state. I found a building that would allow growth, but found I could buy it and pay less than I did renting in Cali.
I checked around and found the labor pool skill set existed. We built the house, bought the building for the business, moved it to Nevada.
I also moved 23 of my best employees, who wanted to get out also.
I live in southwest Clark County, office is a 15 minute drive with traffic, not over an hour like it used to be, I don't have to trip over drug addicts or homeless folks walking from the parking lot to the front door anymore, and my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile down the road. We have been here for close to a year now, I should have done this years ago.
I am still in Cali a few times a month for business, every trip reminds me why we left. We are still close enough to take the grand kids to Disneyland, visit friends, and of course take care of business.

Overcrowded.

Then got kicked in the nuts when it's started getting bad here a few years ago

Of course there are MANY other aspects - but they all are the result of too many people. Happens every place on earth.

Enjoy reading the success stories of those that have left the PRK. We have a quiet, remote 5 acres in N San Diego county, well away from the urban sprawl. The only noise is the occasional sound of freedom from nearby Camp Pendleton. My daughter lives with wife and I, both retired, a couple Boxers, a couple Mopars, among about 250 avocado trees. Work keeps daughter tied to the area.

We looked in Utah, Nevada, et al., for awhile but came down to living with our wonderful daughter is a blessing. Yea, the downside of the PRK is painful, but our quiet 5 acres is somewhat insulating. As to firearms, I lived in AZ for 20yrs and bought everything I needed, easy peazy.

Some of us that remain have good reasons, don't bundle all of us in the "liberal and/or too stupid to leave" camp. Peace out.

Kaiser offered a voluntary severance. This gave me a $57k lump some for me to buy a home on 5 acres for $23k, and get moved to start my homestead.

I had been wanting to move for a long, long time.

When my wife was being told backhandedly, almost daily at work from people she used to respect, that she was a white supremacist for doing anything but FULLY and 100% supporting all leftist policies. Mind you my wife isn't white. She would come home from work sobbing.... As a husband I'm sure you can imagine my reaction.

We already wanted to get out, had been looking at Oregon for a while, but after that summer it happened quick.

There was so many other reasons we wanted to leave and it was never just one thing, but that was truly the final straw.

More and more people in the Bay Area and CA with that mentality. Either you agree with me 100% or you're evil. How can you have relationship with anyone like that? You can't. We knocked the dust off our feet and moved on.
