Default Oregon measure 114 - require gun permits, bans standard cap mags...

From ARF and as usual with permission...

"I can't believe this steaming pile of schit measure is up for vote. 20 pages of "in favor" vs 4 pages of "opposition ".

""All the "in favor" descriptions are nothing but lies.
"Will save lives"
"It will protect our children"
"Will help from targeting people of color"

"I'm so pissed off right now."

That's very sad. The initiative process is supposed to reduce the influence of big money, but it's actually done the opposite. Well-paid professional signature gatherers distort, misrepresent, and downright lie about these initiatives just to get signatures. I've seen them and they're very good at it. Once a measure achieves legitimacy by getting on the ballot, who knows how uninformed voters will react. I fear that this measure will pass, but I hope that judicial review will strike it down.

Agree. People that had probably never been in OR before swoop in and get these things started. That's how AZ got it's ridiculously inflationary minwage law, and the stoner's law.

Measure 114 passing as I feared it would. Hopefully, someone has their court challenged already prepared to file tomorrow. I never saw a more unconstitutional law. This removes all doubt about the stupidity of the Oregon Voter in case there was anyway--- the same people who brought you legalized drugs.

Oregon voters passed one of the country’s strictest gun control measures, a long-sought goal of a grassroots faith-based campaign.

Partial returns tallied as of 11:15 p.m. showed Measure 114 leading 51% to 49%.

Most of the votes left to be tallied were in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, all favoring or heavily favoring the measure.

The measure will require Oregonians to obtain a permit to buy a gun after completing a firearms safety course and would ban the sale or transfer of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Looks like they keep their Dem Governor

Surprises me since the GOP challenger was supposed to win?

In Oregon?

Oregon is blue through and through.

That is why I scoff at the "Greater Idaho" thing.

Interestingly, Measure 114 votes are tightening up a bit as more votes come in.

There are parts that are red but just because they are red does not mean that I am in agreement with expanding Idaho's boarder. What puzzles me the most is Greater Idaho's apparent assumption that Idahoans are for their proposal. Given that OR measure 114 is leading by a slight margin I can see those in eastern Oregon pushing this even harder to free themselves from its prohibitions.

Offer on the table: Boise will trade the North End with Baker, straight across.

“However, the verified outcome of the vote has yet to be declared. As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the vote was split roughly 50/50, with 719,817 votes in favor and 710,799 opposed.”

There's a lot of smoking material in northern California...I'd say many pipe dreams there, obviously. The state of Jefferson is the major dream.

I've been here 20 years plus. I have yet to meet another Idahoan who's in favor of the state of Jefferson. Oregonians pushing for Jefferson fail to look at's what legally necessary to make that happen.

Looking at election results over the years, Boise's North End has little effect on Idaho voting. It's more or less the same as the Ada county precinct that includes the Boise State...typical.

As long as the Constitution stands (which is questionable) we can rely on the takings clause to somewhat protect what we have. I believe, however, that the time we may have is short.

Not sure I understand. Are you saying that you favor the State of Jefferson but are alone in that view or that you do not favor the State of Jefferson and have never met an Idahoan with a different view?

Default Oregon 114

Live in Idaho, but have lots of friends and family in Deschutes county OR. Once Oregon Measure 114 goes into affect, will it be illegal to transport 11+ round magazines into Oregon?

As an aside... WTF? This thing looks like the most extreme anti gun bill I've ever seen. Makes CA look like child's play.

Right now, nobody knows. It’s so badly written. Courts will have their time on it.
There’s been a few sheriffs who have publicly spoke against it/won’t enforce. Great, but it’s osp and city police likely will.

Personally, Dgaf. Do what you want to do or the level you feel most comfortable doing.

So how does that work with a voter proposition that's illegal? Who makes changes to the bill and decides when and if it gets implemented?

Where's LaPierre? Too busy counting his money? This kind of thing should've been squashed before the election.

If the courts do the right thing as per Bruen, the whole thing gets tossed.

Just like Calif, they will slow walk and delay it in the court system. They have unlimited tax payer money to accomplish.

Oregon is only blue in a corridor from Eugene to Portland but that's where the bulk of the population is, much like Washington where the corridor of Olympia/Tacoma/Seattle occupies a small area of the state but has the bulk of the population. Everything east of the Cascades in both states is solid red as was everything south and east of Puget Sound in Washington, but population numbers matter more than area.

This is a problem for many states and the country as a whole, crowded urban areas get to dictate the rules for all. Even if you live a total different way of life in a rural setting they want to dictate your life….misery loves company.

Default Further on the signature gathering

These cretins get paid for everything valid signature. I remember asking one that wanted me to sign for some animal cruelty initiatives and I was curious as to what that entailed, she couldn’t tell me any specifics other than just two sentences as to how it would protect animals from abuse. She couldn’t define what ‘abuse’ consists of.

Looks like a judge has put a block on implementing the measure:

I really don't see this passing constitutional scrutiny tbh. When you have LEAs saying they don't even have the manpower or ability to enforce this, it pretty much becomes a de facto gun ban. I think this is classical liberal overreach that might, ... might work in our favor with good rulings.
