They are wonderful 22 pistols. 9 rds as I recall, rugged little guns. Way cool!

top breaks are fun to shoot in proper working order..
fold it over firmly to get a good ejection pop or brass can hang up and get stuck under the star.. check cylinder gap, timing, and use proper grip on these older .22 revolvers to mitigate lead spitting.. that one looks clean - good luck! 1939 pre-999 sportsman my son was 9yo last year plinking away 9 at a time ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

just being curious where did you find it and for how much ? Maybe that’s stepping over the line but I thought I’d ask... .Its a find for sure .cheers |

I was in the Lodi shop a few days ago , owner just got a large consignment in , saw a 3" mdl 65... not on the books yet . so sales guy would not let anyone handle the un-logged stuff yet... went back 2 days later... #65 GONE ! , the sales guy bought it..lol...saw this 22 and you know the rest of the story... just under $500.00 thought it was pricy till I looked a few up on gunbroker... priced about right for one in great condition... I picked one up from my LGS a few years ago. It was cheap, looked cool & was in great shape. If I remember correctly there is a spring clip retainter inside the cylinder that can be a bit of a B**** and easy to misplace when disassembling. Otherwise is pretty easy to keep clean & fun to shot and, *ahem* reload.

A fine example of the first gun I ever shot...some 37 or so years ago.
I inherited it from my dad and cherish it. Unfortunately, mine is currently in pieces with a severely bent (from years of use) trigger pin. I plan to get around to fixing it eventually... Fun little revolver to shoot!

I've had 2. One like this first older type, and another like the newer one given to me when I bought my Garand. The older unit used to let the cylinder fly off when you broke it open if you had your thumb in the wrong place. Cracked it open once and the cylinder flew off into Bear Lake many moons ago. Great revolvers. PAX

Great nine-shot revolvers---cheap too back in the day---many folks learned to shoot with H&R 22 revolvers of many types. I wish the 999 was still made today---I'll bet they would still sell like crazy, but I wonder how much they would cost now if made today...
I learned to shoot handguns using my friend's well-worn Colt 22lr revolver, turns out it was an old Officers Model Match 22, must have been shot about a million rds by the time I got to shoot it... Should have bought one years ago... |

I have a 1956 H&R 929 Sidekick 9 shot
Excellent condition I checked the mainspring and guide (37A) in above diagram since earlier ones had a plastic guide which cracks and degrades performance over time. They claim it becomes brittle over time even if used very little. I was ready to purchase a metal replacement but it already had a newer metal guide. Cheaper priced 929. But a solid revolver |

Can't you dros them if they're 50+ years old?

I have a 999 that I bought not long before H&R was sold. I love it. It holds almost as many as my semi-auto .22 handguns and I don't have to worry about a safety. The DA trigger pull is so bad I don't think I have ever shot it that way. I have a couple speed loaders for it.

I do agree the D/A triggers on all H&R revolvers are pretty bad, some worse than others.Cannot remember the model but the bull barreled one with a swing out 9 shot cylinder a friend on mine had in the 80/90’s was the gun I have the most trigger time on . I was a young child and could not fire it in D/A because the trigger was too heavy .For a revolver costing around $100 at the time you could not beat it in value. It made cans dance all over the river bottom floor just as good as the S&w 422 and Ruger single six I had around while growing up .

My 999 is at least as accurate as my Ruger Single-Six, though my MKII target beats it. It rides with me in AZ prairie dog country and my son killed his first critter with it - a rattlesnake with a Winchester shot shell.
