Ran a sound comparison with my 300 BO SBR and MP5 SBR both with subsonic rounds. Which is more quiet?

MP5 appears to be quieter. What suppressors on each?

The video doesn’t give accurate sounds but I would agree the 9 mm was quieter but not by much. Considering I was moving the 300 BO 220 gr bullet at 1050 fps vs the 9 mm147 gr bullet at 980+. The sound coming out of the rifle is impressive.

300 BO - Dead Air Nomad 30

MP5 - Yankee Hill Machine R9

The 249 has turned out sweeet EBR, I can't wait to see it.

Mac, I think the MP5 was slightly more quiet as well - ever so slightly.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something to put a hot suppressor in for transport. Maybe I'm overthinking this...my first can should get out of NFA jail relatively soon (fingers crossed) so this is new to me...

Basically I'm thinking what do I do if I take a brake from work, go shooting for a bit, but something comes up and I need to zip back to work ASAP. I imagine I can take it off with a welding glove easily enough but what do I put it into?

Would it change things or provide other options if I simply leave it on the gun? It'll be a Q Thunder Chicken on an MCX Rattler, so much of the suppressor will be overlapped with the hand guard.

We use this to cool them faster:

It’s a hassle but when my cans get nice and hot and I’m ready to pack up and leave. I end up having to take an extra 10 - 15 mins for them to cool down. You could take them off their hosts before I take them off my hosts but I just leave them on as they cool down.

If you take them off, just be aware the mount may have heated up too so the metal expanded and may take extra effort to pull off. Definitely have a glove or something to use to pull them off.

As far as transporting a hot suppressor, you may want to consider a cover as they do a great job of making it easier to handle hot cans. Just know covers will eventually need to be replaced as they degrade over time.

First time hearing about a chamber chiller. I take you just stick it into the muzzle of the suppressor.

I just dismount the can and put it on a hard surface, then run the cooler into it. Much quicker than waiting for it to cool naturally.

Friend of mine had a S&H SD conversion with the holes in the barrel. I don't know if it was H&K stuff or someone made it in the U.S. This was over 20 years ago so I would guess it was real H&K stuff. It turned supersonic ammo into subsonic so we know it had a drilled barrel.

It was a damn quiet setup if you were more than 5 feet away. If you were shooting it you could hear quite a bit of port pop, but it was still hearing safe.

Nice to know the R9 sounds good, but nobody has done a metered test that I've seen. It's frustrating that Silencer Shop has stopped testing, because buying is just all guesswork.

Nomex pouches are made, but they're expensive, over a hundred bucks. You could get a silicone oven mitt and stick the can in there, and get a second mitt to cover the protruding end.

How does that setup sound? That's a really short barrel.

Does the taper on the can match the taper on the SIG?

Photo of the .223 concentricity check rod in the mounted can. Perfectly aligned & plenty of room!

I use the carbon x suppressor bag and mitt from mechanix wear glove company if i have to handle a hot can or need to leave and transport my can while it’s still hot.

In another life I used to race cars a little. By rule you had to wear a fireproof suit, and nomex was the dominant material. Nomex is pretty good, but it's main attribute is it doesn't burn. It still lets heat come through to some degree.

There were always new high tech materials being introduced, and I was in a race shop when one of them came out. They were doing a cool demo - you put on a glove made of the material, which was impressive because it was really thin and in an open knit, and they held a lit lighter under your hand, flame fully touching the glove. It didn't even feel warm. Wish I could remember the name of it.

Maybe something like this for your hot suppressor transport. Don't know if the inside of the pouch would melt:

Sig, I’m betting that was mechanix gloves that did that demo and the material was carbon x. If not I think they did a similar demo with it when it came out. That’s what that hot suppressor storage bag I linked above is made out of. They are deeply discounted on their sight right now. Thinking about buying another while they are cheap. Take care.

Some M249 shoot video from today, with and without suppression:

Runs flawlessly. The SLX can reduces gas in the face to almost zero.

Listen for hits on the big steel plate at 150 yards.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I'm still waiting on the stamp so I don't know yet. The taper on the muzzle device is intended for use with the Sig taper. Q also makes direct thread version of their cans with a Sig taper. I've gone the muzzle device route as I intend to also run this on an 18" AR10

They are having a reasonably decent sale overall right now. I snagged one of those bags and some other items I needed as well. With a little luck maybe I'll get to test this bag soon...

The hot mitt they make is worth having too. For re-tightening a hot can or removing it to put it in the bag. I think it’s on sale too. Same material. Use mine all the time.

I certified on 3/24 - approval came on Friday but the processing FFL couldn't release until today... Hopefully I'll be able to get over there before they close today.

This MPA gun has been in my safe unloved as a pistol for about a decade. Was a CA SSE gun during that golden time. Rummaged through the parts bin and found enough stuff to SBR it. Not a can, just a barrel extension that fits the permanent tri-lug. Fun to shoot now.

A local CalGuns expat taking it for a ride:

I also have a few of these from when we first became a SOT in CA. This one in .22. I have another in 9mm. The oil can adapter is the registered part.

Silly!

I just got one out of the three E-Form 4's I submitted approved the other day. It took almost eight months to the day. It is a Warlock II that was free from when SilencerCo had a sale with a buy-one-get-one for free. I can't wait to try it out on my new Taurus pistol in the next week or so.

Here’s one of those unexpected surprises at the FFL. Walked in to pick up a receiver and saw this on the table ready to be transferred. So I asked the guy who the lucky guy is.

He said, “You.” I had completely forgotten buying this.

ETA: No idea why the picture gets upside down.

Nice! What can is that? Fits underneath the original handguard?

Never seen a stamp applied to that location on the approval.

Excellent.

You should GTG with your new TX. I bought the compact and put 600 rounds of mini mags through it without issues.

Where did you buy the Warlock II?

Where did you buy the Warlock II?
I have read lots of good things about the TX, so I hope mine will be just as good.
I got the Octane 45 suppressor from my local FFL dealer that had it in stock. We did the e-form 4 there and then I had the long wait. Back then they had a buy-one-get-one free deal, and they gave me the Warlock II for my free suppressor.
