I have a general rule of never passing up a $100 .22. Can never have too many. If it breaks, so what?

I helped a 70 year old female friend pick out a 22lr revolver a couple years ago. The Wrangler I looked at was rough to operate, had a horrible trigger, and just felt like it needed a good polish all over for it to feel right...The Heritage on the other hand was smooth as silk and felt much better in all its controls and trigger. It was an easy choice for her to make the pick the RR over the Wrangler.

I am a die hard Ruger fan and have over a dozen of their revolvers.....it was pretty hard to not get her to buy a Ruger and pretty easy to steer clear of the Wrangler in our case....maybe I was handed a particularly bad example.

I remember shooting my buddies wrangler and thinking how stupid it was to have a free spinning cylinder during loading and the reloads. Instead of the cylinder stoping on a positive click you had to watch the cylinder and line up the chambers to eject the spent casings, really annoying.

I will say I like the Colt like four click function of the Heritage over the Rugers one click. Enough that I’d most likely lean Heritage over Ruger, even though that safety on the Heritage is an eye sore.

I agree, I had a Ruger Single Six convertible for a while. Everyone that I let fire it got tired of the tedious loading/unloading process after shooting 2-3 cylinders. I sold mine and bought a S&W 617.

I’ve been interested in them on there hang tag alone .I am a sixgun man at my core so with them being so inexpensive I’ve always wondered people’s reaction to them in general.A thread like this helps a lot ,unbiased reviews from real people that aren’t greased like some of the gun magazine writers .It all sounds mixed , I have a line on a Colt dual cylinder 6” fixed sight Peacemaker 22 in the box .I’m now leaning towards I’d rather put my money into a all steel gun , plus you can’t get a rough rider with a case harden frame.

My two Colt Frontier Scouts have aluminum frames and triggerguards so hopefully you are looking at some other model.

Then of course, there is the other end of the spectrum, and yes, you can order an additional .22 Magnum cylinder.
Freedom Arms model FA83, in .22LR:

AR-15 barrels Yes it is a different Colt than your. Please don’t quote me since I’m not a well versed on dates/years of Colts 22 offerings.

From what I gather it looks like your Colts are the Scout models or frontier scouts? Unclear on which might have adjustable sights or not .

The one set I’m going to purchase is marked on the end label “Peacemaker 22”
It’s all steel with fixed sights ,6” barrel and convertible with a 22 LR and 22 mag cylinder . The cylinders ,barrel and grip frame are blued and the frame is case hardened.I believe it’s a wood grain looking outer box not the burgundy colored one from the 80’s .Its been in a local dealers safe for 6 years as he took it on trade. He offered it to me for $650 OTD so I think my $150 will go towards that instead of toward a Heritage set. I have a stainless single 10 ,a 6” 617 prelock 10 shot , (2) k22 transitional and a snubbie prelock 34-1 in revolvers but no Colts so I’m looking forward to getting it. It will be a few weeks before I pick it up .

Mine are both Frontier Scouts.
One is 22LR and the other is 22 Magnum.

Tim, I was given a Peacemaker that's exactly as you describe, including the wood grain box. It's a nice shooter, and of course a classic SA.

I ran the serial number of my gun at Colt's site and found it was made in 1972.

The Peacemaker should serve you well!

Nice ,that Colt set is stone mint .would it be Sacrilegious to not shoot it or is that set not at a collectible level yet ?Like I’ve said before not versed well in all the 22 six guns Colt made over the years.

i have bought two, new in the box, heritage roughriders from online vendors. the first, 4.5”, was ten years ago. it is perfectly just ok, but i shoot a ruger single six or wrangler way much more. the second, 6.5”, was in 2019. it was poorly made, ill fitted, rough to the touch and i happily sold it off. the hrr is ok if you buy it new, physically inspect the exact one you buy and don’t plan on handing it down to your kids.
