Default Retired cop to bailiff?

Been retired for 4 years now after 23 years on the job and currently teaching at a couple police academies, but now the local sheriffs office is looking for part time deputy-bailiffs. This is a sworn position.
Anyone done this or doing it now? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I have a couple friends that are doing the bailiff thing. They say it’s not a bad part time job. Dry in the winter and cool in the summer. Can get a bit boring at times. If you’ve been retired for four years, what’s the status of your POST?

I retired in 2005 as a full time deputy, then worked 10 years as a per diem bailiff. It was fine working with lots of my fellow retired deputies as well as regulars assigned to the courts. I also earned the rest of my social security credits while there.

Thx for the replies.

I’ve been out for over 3 years (4 ish) so I believe I’d need to attend the 3 week recert academy.

It's a great post retirement gig. Bankers hours, holidays and weekends off. Very little paper.

Half of our bailiffs are retired and do a flexible schedule. Every time I stop in for a shift here and there, they seem to like it - easy money.

They only downside working with you retirees is I already heard that story. About 40 times...

You couldn’t pay me enough to be a bailiff AFTER retirement. For LA County, they were paying around $30 per hour for that bailiff job. Chump change. When I retire soon, it’s about NEVER having to work again, by planning it that way for over 30 years. I’ll be too busy with other fun stuff already planned out …until death due to old age (hopefully).

Every story starts with “Back in the hot years…..” and took place at the corner of “Walk and Don’t Walk.”

Every. Single. One.

Just finished my ReCert Academy. Now to apply. Seems like lots of counties are wanting part time bailiffs.

This right here...I left CA in 2015 and can't believe how much money I have banked every month without CA's lecherous taxes and fees. I can't remember the last time I woke up to an alarm clock.

If you have been retired four years, your POST is expired and you would have to re-cert.
