Default Worth Joining Sac Valley as Non-Voting Member?

Like to hear your thoughts. I live in the east bay, takes me an hour and half to get there. Is it worth it? Their public 300 yard range looks interesting. Thanks!

Yes and no. Of you plan to become a voting member to get on the competition ranges then yes. If not, all you need to do is shoot a decent group at 100 to get on the 300, no membership required. To get on the steel, attend matches, make friends, come out with members on "practice" days.

forgot to mention. Military rifle match on the 16th (saturday) and semi auto military rifle on the 23rd if you want to shoot the steel silhouette range. $20 match fee, bring at least 60 rounds.

Can’t answer your question on value, but any time you can spend at Sac Valley is worthwhile… best range I know of around. I too used to drive an hour or more to get there from Oakley when I lived up there - the monthly silhouette matches are awesome.

The choice was easy for me. I am retired and I live close by. But if you are not going to visit very often you may not see any savings.

It used to be $7 for members and $17 for non-members. It recently went up to $9 for members. I don't know what the public fee is. When I was still working I joined as a non-voting member but I did not actually save any money over the course of the year until I retired. I now go out there once a week.

I have met several guys out there who drive from the bay area.

Also, you won't be able to use the 300 yard range until you "qualify". You just get a target from the office and prove you are proficient at the 100 yard line first. Very easy.

You will like it there whether you become a member or not. Very nice people.

It does get crowded sometimes on the weekends with newbies who can't seem to follow simple instructions without one on one counseling but nothing unsafe.

The fee for non-members is $20. Like others said, the qualification for the 300yd range is fairly straightforward. Shoot a decent group at 100, doesn't have to be sub moa, just close enough so that it looks like you're actually aiming.

The 100yd range sometimes gets crowded on weekends, but the 300yd rarely gets crowded except before hunting season. And the rimfire range is also rarely crowded. I remember going on a weekday morning once and had the entire 100yd range to myself. That's a lot of empty lanes.

They also allow steel cased ammo all year round.

no need for membership for 300 yards. if you can shoot a baseball size grouping at 100 yard, you're good to go. pick weekdays for your range trip if you can to avoid crowd.

Just FYI, Sacvalley requires soft point bullets on the steel targets.

I am am non voting member. In my opinion it is only worth it to join if you shoot more than once a month or want to upgrade to full voting member status. Also I believe it gives you two more days a week to shoot than the non members. Not sure if that is still the case.

I need to get off my butt and get upgraded to voting member. Lots more options to play with my cowboy guns and a much more realistic place to practice your CCW. They usually only want you shooting 1 round a second on the public range. Another thing as a voting member you can take non voting members to other ranges.

Yes, the steel matches are match and soft point only, no green tips, no fmj.

There is a semi-auto military rifle match next weekend. I'll be attending and would love to see some calgunners participate

Do they still have room for voting members as I know it’s capped. Been meaning to join for awhile to get access as a voting member and need to just drive over and start the process/volunteer.
