Hey guys,
Got a Facebook promo - ASD if offering UTAH CCW for $139 in Pleasanton. I know it's Not CA Valid. The Fee includes the following - * Application & all relevant paperwork * Fingerprinting Service * Required photo for permit * A copy of your driver's license * Delivery of your packet to the Utah BCI for processing. Additional $63 fee is required for the Non-Residents of Utah. It is supposed to be Valid CCW in 30 States, as advertised. QUESTIION - Is it worth it, or not? And Why Yes/ Why Not? Thanks for your feedback and insight!!! The class is tomorrow, so will appreciate response from anyone reading this... ![]() |

When you apply for a CCW / CHL there are questions
Do you already have a CCW/ CHL ? If yes - provide details This is partially guilt or innocent by association. Ie see other agencies accept my training and good moral character and issues me a CHL/ CCW

Although the "Constitutional Carry" states are lenient, I wonder if people really carry guns on their person there, and especially the out of state people (non-residents). It is my imagination, that having a CCW will look better, if stopped by a LEO. Not sure if I should/shouldn't get it... Benefits: Pros/Cons... |

u could consider the Arizona non-resident permit. it only costs like 60 bucks. the main reason to get the Utah permit instead of the AZ permit is to get reciprocity in Washington state.

The AZ course requirement can be satisfied by taking an NRA class or similar, competition certificate, or DD214. If you take a UT course, some instructors can give you a certificate for AZ proof of competency.

Although this isn't a thread about "costs", but things are tight these days. I doubt $60 includes eveything, including paperwork, photos, finger prints, shipping, etc..

I think the AZ permit is the most popular one most California people get for the reasons stated above. This link has a good tool for quickly viewing reciprocity https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/res...ciprocity_map/

I presume there are fees involved that are in addition to the application fee, hence AZ would cost more than $60 application fee. So UT CCW for $139 sounds about the same... |

Under Federal laws... A person with a valid CCW permit is exempt from the 1000' Federal GFSZ of the school in the State in which the CCW permit was issued in. [18 USC 922(q)(2)(B)(ii)] Being exempt from the Federal GFSZ laws does not automatically make that person exempt from State GFSZ laws and that person must also comply with any local (state, county, city. etc) GFSZ laws. [18 USC 922(q)(4)] Examples: ~A person with a valid AZ CCW permit is exempt from the 1000' Federal GFSZ restriction for GFSZ located in AZ. ~A person with a valid AZ CCW permit is not exempt from being on property of a school/college/etc. ~A person with a valid AZ CCW permit is not exempt from the 1000' Federal GFSZ restriction for GFSZ located in other States. However, there is the argument that States that have formal reciprocity agreements (written, agreed upon by both States, and publically posted by each State) are considered licensed by the State due to the formal reciprocity agreement needing to approved/licensed by the State. ^That said, this has not been tested in the Courts. 18 USC 922 (2)(A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone. (B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm— (i) on private property not part of school grounds; (ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license; (iii) that is— (I) not loaded; and (II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle; (iv) by an individual for use in a program approved by a school in the school zone; (v) by an individual in accordance with a contract entered into between a school in the school zone and the individual or an employer of the individual; (vi) by a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity; or (vii) that is unloaded and is possessed by an individual while traversing school premises for the purpose of gaining access to public or private lands open to hunting, if the entry on school premises is authorized by school authorities. (4) Nothing in this subsection shall be construed as preempting or preventing a State or local government from enacting a statute establishing gun free school zones as provided in this subsection.

My initial permit was ~$100; $60 for the permit and $40 for the fingerprint card. IIRC, the renewal was something like $45.

Was this AZ or UT permit? Did you have to take any class or training to get signed off?

Training cost? And where did you do an in person interview? I checked, it seems there are limited locations where we'd have to go for an in person interview.

No.... I couldn't make up my mind if I wanna spend $200 on the UT permit, or for half the price get the AZ permit, which is essentially the same, except WA. Now the next step is how to proceed for the AZ permit? Where to get classes, what forms to fill, where to send, finger prints, photos, and total Fees involved... Is there a One Stop shop for this? |

UT gets you WA and AZ gets you NM. My enhanced Idaho CWL is good everywhere AZ and UT are accepted. However, as I understand it, to be exempt from the federal school zone law the permit has to have been issued by the state where the school zone is located. So I also have a WA CPL, despite the fact that WA recognizes both my ID and UT permits.

I attended this class when up here in Windsor a few weeks back, it was very well ran and the instructor was also the owner named Spencer. Nine of us in that class and talking with others when leaving took positive information away from it. He also does the Az class which I may add later on, he also said he would send me a certificate from this class I could take to Oregon when I go meet with one of the Sheriff deputy's there free of charge. Well worth the $200 total IMHO.
