Default Friendly FFL Services in San Jose

Just wanted to shout out a fairly new FFL in San Jose, Friendly FFL Services.

He was available on extremely short notice for a PPT and everything was smooth and quick.

Also, glad we have a new FFL in the south bay.

He maybe friendly but his fees are not

https://friendlyffl.com

15% of the purchase price min for non PPT transfers.
I can understand if he doesn't have a line out the door for his services.

What does he charge for PPT?

Their FAQ page says the fees are negotiable and he has a FFL best price guarantee. Sounds promising, and glad we have additional FFL options in the Bay Area.

He should be charging the state mandated fee which I think is $35.
I didn't get passed the first page when I saw 15%.
Farwest is $60, scguns is $70, and ugimports is now $100 so his fees really are out of line with the rest of the market.

Agreed, 15% is steep but if he can price match Farwest then he’ll be fine. I imagine his 15% was targeted towards newer buyers who may not know of other FFL resources, didn’t read the fine print about price matching, or those who are transferring something priced less than $400.

My understanding is that by law, PPT cannot be more than $10 plus the $37.19 DROS. Which sucks because how the heck can anyone stay in business being locked in charging $10 for a minimum 30 minutes of their time.

I was curious what the OP paid for their PPT at Friendly given their FFL fee structure.

I just ran his calculator for a $1500 purchase (he’s also charging the fee against what you paid for the gun and shipping!), the total was $423 including sales tax and dros for cash and $473 if paying with a cash app.

Paid the state mandated fee for the PPT, $37.19 + $10.

I've used his services a few times. The Percentage based fees can be a bit odd, but sometimes works in your favor depending on what you are buying. If its mostly cheaper rifles or pistols, then its usually not any worse than a local gunstore, where there might be a line or employees who ignore you.

What I like best is that he is available on weekends, and is easy to schedule a time with. Since my only other option for weekend appointments are local gun shops who charge 100 for a transfer, It's easier for me to use FriendlyFFL.

But yeah, if you're buying something expensive, the fee structure would not be in your favor. He's a chill guy, always efficient and professional. Worth keeping on your radar; not many countertop FFL's in the area after all.

PPT fees are normal state mandated fee.
