Default Found this in my Mother's attic.

Clearing my mom's home for sale and found this in the attic/rafters. It's stamped "J.P. Clabrough Bros".

Anyone know anything about it? Is it worth cleaning and displaying? It may have belonged to my great grandmother.

Pics REALLY small, but, VERY cool! Don't bubba-clean it, find out what you have and be sure to be careful and do it correctly. Remember, clean, not recondition.

If I found my GG’s gun, I’d clean and display it proudly!

Lousy pics and posted in the wrong forum=few real answers.

But taking a WAG, I would say it's some kind of store brand shotgun from the 1880's/ early 1900's.

I know... Pics are lousy. I missed the class in iPhone still life photography. I appreciate your acumen. I'll get the hang of Calguns eventually.

Why ? Because "It may have belonged to my great grandmother."

OP totally not worth cleaning or displaying. In fact I'll tell ya what I'll do. I'll take that dangerous weapon off your hands. Just let me know when you'll be able to deliver it to me.

A man with a Marlin 56....is a happy man! Congrats.

...Now if I could only come across a Marlin 57, or even the proper Sear, J.C.Higgins or Revelations variant, I would be twice happy.

Excellent Find!
Do not scrub it up, just wipe a bit with a dry cloth and enjoy.
I’d display case this beauty.

Per one of the posts - this is a part San Francisco history and family as well.

No monetary value but has sentimental value. At most it’s a $300 gun.

Wipe it with a lightly oiled cloth. Dont scrub it or use any steel wool on it. Patina looks great on a firearm.

Be careful- I had an old Ithaca shotgun that I was told was a damascus barrel where they cast around some kind of metal wire. The wire eventually rots out leaving a hollow barrel. He said black powder is OK but no modern shells. Maybe FUD but I like my face where it is.

the shotgun was made by a Scot if I remember right and while they were located in the east. I believe they also had a shop in San Francisco for a while. Supposed to be of good quality in their days. Nice family piece to hang on the wall. I bought one and paid $200 for the engraving and wood work.
