All my kit is from the late 90’s to early 2000’s, so bulky, heavy, hot, but made in USA (ok, some assembly in Mexico), and has lasted me over two decades..
Here are a few tac vests I’ve used in the field on patrol or tactical barricade situations, used at the Range during Firearms Courses, then ending up in storage after my stint in LE was over. •Pointblank MRV-CT in OD green, soft Level 2A concealable armor carrier, with snap velcro grid pouch attach system. •Pointblank HRM S.P.I.D.E.R. Tactical Vest in Nomex Aramid IIIA Dk. Navy, Level3A Panels and snap velcro grid system with Nomex pouches. •Protech Tactical Cover Six ‘Slick’ Level 3A Vest, with custom added snap velcro grid, FDE/Black. ( I no longer had the original kevlar for this vest, but was able to purchase same model vest used but one size shorter, so I kept the kevlar since I knew it would fit in my carrier, then was able to sell the outer carrier of the short sized vest for more than what I spent originally.) Anyone here have personal experience with the new First Spear Strandhogg? I've been on the fence about ordering the SAPI cut for my AR650 plates, since there are limited options for 11x14.

I don 't have a photo handy, but I have a pretty high end set up that can absorb multiple high velocity airsoft hits. It is also very comfortable to wear for extended periods (1-2 hours) and when we are campaigning outside of the wire in exotic locations such as Moreno Valley and Barstow. Mid morning warrior feast 2 clicks away at FOB Del Taco.
The made in China civilian body armor and useless tactical crap industry is driven by people like me and other wannabe suburban operators. TAKE MY MONEY!!!!! |

This is the Light/A.S.S. variant. It's more of a minimalist carrier and better for smaller frames. I'm 5'7" @ 155-160ish. The rig is solid. If I could afford the near $1k price point, I'd opt for even lighter plates as the Hesco 4400 series is approx. 8lbs each, but they do the job for the price point. I do have a 762 panel and it holds the weight well. As for the carrier, I wish it was a bit more modular to accept a rear panel or pack for hydration. I'm sure that I can rig something up though. The standard carrier will have the MOLLE panels available to do so, but will sit lower on my back than I'd like. It's a trade off, I guess. Other than that, the straps are comfy, but it can interfere with your rifle pocket. I think the Crye JPC is superior for that, but this was on sale and it was to help Esstac support the family of their late employee. I did add SKD Pontoons and man do those make a big difference in overall comfort and airflow. |

Its why I've always just stuck to my battle belt. That and the philosophy of being quick and agile while making good hits in any position...albeit at the cost of vital organ protection. |

![]() ![]() - HSGI belt - Esstac quadrunner magpouch (1911) - HSGI 3 mag TACO shingle - HSGI polymer TACO (Israeli pressure bandage stuffed in there - no room in my IFAK for it!) - Gerber multitool & pouch - HSGI pistol TACO (light) - Code4 Concealment kydex holster (1911) - CRKT M-16 folding knife ![]() - CR-M4/6-MS-LE-CCA chest rig (Level III-A soft plate behind the mag pouches) - Two (2) CaT 7 tourniquets - AR500 IFAK - Condor radio pouch The belt is the MAIN thing - like most folks, I DON'T care for a bulky chest rig; this one is about as low-drag as I can build. Being a former EMT-1 (30 years ago - I keep fairly current on medical training), I do like a little extra medical stuff on me. If the flag ever goes up, someone else might appreciate me having it on me, too!
