I took a few of my younger cousins (14-16 y/o) to a shooting range and they brought up an interesting point about if learning to handle a gun in their non-dominant hand is necessary. Do you think it's something they should try and learn after handling guns for a longer period of time? Or is it something that shouldn't have to bother with?
Googled some articles later that night lol http://www.laxammooc.com/art-one-han...side-shooting/ |

Yes, 100% yes.
And to start now at a young age would only expedite the efficiency of this technique. Many scenarios involve having to switch to your "support" side and make the same shot. From wounds to doorways. I vote yes, get involved with encouraging this idea. Calling it a "weak side" is due to the lack of training on that side is all. |

Yes! I actually believe this so much that I teach one handed shooting with both hands in my INTRO classes (obviously after learning to shoot with 2 hands). You never know if and when you will need to shoot with only one hand. When I was a police officer, I broke my right (dominant) hand. I was on light-duty for 3 months and carried with my left hand. I was 100% confident in my abilities to shoot left handed, and still practiced at the range weekly during the time I was injured. The only thing I had a hard time with was cleaning the gun one handed. Thankfully, my wife cleaned my gun for me during that time. In my intro classes, I have each student fire two round with just their right hand and two rounds with just their left hand. Obviously, that is not a lot, but I do this just to show them that it can be done. In more advanced lessons, I incorporate one-handed shooting into each class. I will recommend getting a lesson on one-handed shooting if you have never done it before. It is a little different than regular two handed shooting.
