Default favorite shooting spot near San Jose

Ive been out of the shooting sport for years and just recently got back in. Trying to go as much as i can to get my skills back up to speed.

Where are your favorite spots and also the best deals?
If going frequently, that could add up to alot of range fees. Perhaps some places have a discount for purchasing multiple passes or something like that?

Also looking for non range places, either private or public lands where you can shoot. Save the fees but also practice shooting without all the range restrictions.

thanks

I like Metcalf the most. Their range fee is $15 for the whole day. You won’t be able to find restriction-free land to shoot around the Bay Area. I’ve been looking for years. Let me know if you ever find any.

If you want restriction-free shooting, you’ll have to join one of the clubs. Action Pistol Club meets on the first and third Saturday of every month at the San Jose Municipal range. Defensive Shooting Club meets on the first and third Sunday of every month at Metcalf. Once a year there’ll be a month for carbine and one for shotgun with DSC. You’ll be able to shoot from a holster, do speed and tactical reloads, and shoot scenarios/drills. I’ve done both and they’re both fun. It beats standing still and punching paper every three seconds. PM me if you want more details. I’ll take you to one of the meets if you want. I haven’t gone to a DSC meet in a long time. Almost two years now. Sundays are family days for me now that I’m a father.

metcalf is the best. If you want public land, that's Panoche. Fun on low wind days.

I use Los Altos Rod and Gun, between Los Altos and Los Gatos. Up in the hills so quite a bit cooler than Metcalf.

Clientele is similarly good as Metcalf, similar rules, similar cost.

Sunnyvale rod and gun. (not actually in sunnyvale)

One lane, you place your target at 50 or 100. Steel targets at 100. Steel ammo allowed.

Clays, pistol lanes, and a rimfire side thats usually empty.

Williams Hill is great but it’s just too damn rocky and mountainous. I always have a hard time finding a good location. Do you mind sharing a good spot? PM me. I’m planning a trip to BLM and was planning to go Panoche but I think it’s fire season right now. I’m considering Tumey but I’ve been there too many times so I want to try a new spot.
