FFL wants a friend to bring his gun back because of an address discrepancy

A friend of mine purchased a .22 revolver from Outdoor Warehouse. The DROS went through fine and he took delivery of the firearm. Sometime later they called him telling him he needed to bring the firearm back because they said that the address he wrote on the forum did not match the address on his driver's license. Apparently one says XYZ Avenue and the other says XYZ Road. I am not 100% clear as to where the discrepancy came from, but I think it may be between his proof of residence and driver's license. The street name is the same except for the road vs avenue.

Does anyone know what he needs to do in this case? Can he get in trouble for refusing to bring the weapon back in to re-DROS it? My gut says that he passed the background check and the firearm was released to him, so he should be in the clear. Thanks in advance

My DL has a slight misspelling in the street name. My vehicle reg is correct. I usually tell them to use the registration spelling but sometimes forget and I am in the system both ways and have never had a problem. Only once has an FFL even noticed the discrepancy on their own.

If it was released to her, no need to go back. I wonder if FFL can submit a DROS correction for a minor address tweak? FFL subforum could give you more info.

I just got a little more info. I am not sure it makes a difference but his wait was up and he picked up the weapon almost five weeks ago and they are just now contacting him about it.

Can't fix address. "wrong" address will only impact ammo purchases until a newer AFS record gets in the system.

Recommend having them update their address in CFARS so they know for sure what is "in the system" is the correct address. CFARS takes anywhere from 2-7 days from my experience to update. They will NOT be notified when the update is complete, but if they do it now at least they know after 7 days or so it'll be accurate to match against an ammo purchase.

In regards to the mistake it's an issue for the FFL and nothing needs to be done by the consumer. The FFL wants to reDROS and re-hold for 10 day wait to fix their error.

Op hope you get this sorted, but you have a discrepancy on 2 of the posts. You say "he" in one and "she" in another.

I would not take the gun back but would offer to come in and fix the paper work.

Redoing the DROS won't change the problem with the first one, although it seems that come FFLs think that it does for some unknown reason. From what I know, the name and address really don't matter since it uses the CA ID/DL for identification and it appears that the DMV records are what are actually used.

I fixed the OP. The friend (a former student I have kept in touch with) is a he. I was using voice to text on my phone originally while I was in a noisy environment and didn't have my reading glasses handy so I missed the error in the second part of the post.

Take it out and shoot it, if don't like the way it shoot while holding it just return it and have the ffl restock the full amount back and throw that paperwork away. No need for a 2nd time, Once it fired and know how it feels like it keep it if not feeling how it shoots what I state above
