Default PRS gas guns?

PRS has a 1 moa minimum requirement. Do they require if of gas guns too? If I bring out my ordinary AR, will they make me prove it shoots 1 moa?

Your scores will prove it out well enough.

They probably listed that because there are some 1 MOA size targets. No one will care how accurate your gun actually is, but a 3 MOA rifle won't do well.

Hopefully you will compete in a tactical category, and the COF will not include extended distances.

Actually, if I do it, it won't be tactical category. It will be something like a 6 ARC.

I'm not hoping to place well, just do some plinking.

No. Local matches and the nationals I have shot, couldn't care less how well your gun shoots. As long as it's safe and you are safe you can shoot what you got.

Generally speaking to do well you want a gun that's 1 MOA or better, preferably better. This is what you are misinterpreting as a requirement. Most local matches have larger targets so often 1-1.5 MOA is "enough" to do well if you can as a shooter.

Okay, thanks. They'll probably get suspicious if I go through the whole match with no impacts.

And money.
Many PRS matches are a couple hundred dollars entry fee and fill up in seconds from when they open up entries.

There's probably a few local "club" matches with $30 entry fees in his area.

True, but you don't usually get all the cool stages in club matches.

I would rather shoot a .308 TC compass with no brake, than a mil-spec AR

If you're talking about me, there are no local anything near me. Not even ranges to practice on. At best I can zero at a hundred and plink steel at 400, anything else is a guess. Which is part of why I don't expect many hits at real PRS range.

Yeah, I was but now I see your location is "not in CA". Luckily for us, whether in Northern, Central, or Southern CA there is usually a club match somewhere within a 2-hour drive.

The closest for me is 4 hours. 2 more hours may not sound like much, but it adds up to 8 hours round trip, and I have to leave at oh-dark-thirty to get to the match in the morning. It's also de-motivating for practice sessions.

maybe we should meet up at angeles ranges for a 2 box of m80 competition?
you get as many points as the yardage for each hit, draft style order so you know what others are hitting and if you need to go for higher point targets.

the m80 will make the longer distances a challenge and add an element of risk to going for top points (although maybe 600 isn't that tough depending on how well your rifle shoots cheap ammo).

i heard they are trying pass a bill to limit ammo sales to 2x the guns capacity every 120 days.
this makes me reluctant to shoot match ammo, even though i have some.

Hmmm, I don't think I've fired M80 or any FMJ's in the last 15 years...That would be pretty challenging though.

The one local match that I did in the Fall, I used my Valkyrie. I would think 6mm ARC would do a bit better. Many of the shots that I missed, had nothing to do with the rifle and more related to the COF.

I had not seen most of the course before the match started. I found it difficult to quickly reacquire targets once I was behind the rifle, in the specified shooting position, with the limited time alloted for each stage.

Turn your scope magnification down.

Good grief, is that in kali or nationwide?

On some bolt guns that would mean you could only buy 6 rounds per 4 months? That's infringement, no question.

You would have to buy 50 guns so that you could buy a decent amount of ammo.

There are three clubs I shoot with quite often that are all 3+ hours away. Leaving at 4:00-4:30 AM to shoot a one-day Club or Regional match is normal. It just depends on your level of commitment. I would say, "Just go, and try it out at a club level match."

You will find out what you like, what you don't like, and I can say with a reasonable level of confidence that if you like it, you'll upgrade equipment (maybe even your gun) as you go."

I haven't done anything since my earlier posts, and won't until the gun/ammo supply situation eases. I never got a 6 ARC upper because I couldn't find any ammo. I don't have any .223 bullets or ammo suitable for long range and haven't seen any in quite awhile, so I can't even dink around with a 16" AR.
