Security System that does POE and Wireless?
Do they make an owner installed POE system for the house, high end Costco type, that will also do wireless? I have an non attached garage that I would like to put a camera on. POE is perfect for the house cameras but running wire to the garage would be a pita.

idk, but have you considered powerline? https://www.digitaltrends.com/comput...ne-networking/
Basically it turns your house's electrical wiring for power into a giant ethernet cable, available at any electrical outlet (with an adapter). POE for your house cameras, powerline for your detached garage (which I assume is still on your house's electrical grid) |

Be really careful with powerline adapters. If you are away from other houses you are fine but if you are in a beehive community if someone else has them and you aren't locked down they can connect to your equipment. I found this out the hard way when my old DirecTV system went nuts and I was able to connect to the neighbors box and watch what they recorded. They must have connected to mine too and wiped out all our saved shows. Of course that set off a light bulb and I poked around in their computers as well... I didn't think it would connect that far but it most certainly did.

Honestly, go PoE with a hardwired connection. Run exterior grade wire under the eaves until you can get to where you want your camera.
Going wireless is a major security flaw that compromises the whole system. Blocking, jamming, etc. Plus the camera resolution won't be as good or as reliable as the wired cameras. Put in the extra effort now and enjoy the results. The Costco Lorex units have worked well for me (installed a client-purchased system) as have the systems from Security Camera Warehouse. SCW has excellent customer service after the purchase too.

^^^ This!
Wireless is a last resort but should still be avoided. If you're in a densely populated area, you'll more than likely run into wireless interference with neighboring wireless networks. You can run 5GHz but still would recommend sticking with hardwired connections. Run CAT5E or CAT6A STP burial or aerial rated cable. If your camera supports passive PoE, be sure to get a injector or switch thats also passive PoE. |
