I would call the lapd and kindly explain the current situation with lasd policy change. Basically yes skip it but confirm your cancelation. Don't flake ... Then go straight to LASD with a big smile of good moral standards of someone who communicates and confirms cancellations lol. Might seem silly but also shows responsibility and respect..

Don't send your original.. I sent my copy and when they call me they will communicate to me what they need. At that point I will bring in my original if requested.. I sent in my application with everything they would want to see. It's better to show more effort and documents then to show nothing. No one is going to be angry for showing your documents early.. That a good thing bro. It shows them you are organized and ready to provide all and everything they want to see. This is my view on it and I hope i'm right lol.. Go in with good spiritual intentions.. Be yourself and if it's meant to be then it will be.

Never send an original government document.. always a copy or certified copy. Original documents are only provided in person as a proof of legitimacy. They get their proof and you get your original back to take home where it belongs..

Follow the guidelines that lasd gave us.. It clearly says to ignore the doj instructions and instead follow the LASD instructions.. witch means to fill it all out and sign the 3 pages and mail it in.. Very simple.. You don't have an interview with the doj, You have an interview with LASD..

Does anyone know what the firearms portion is checking and what the results show?

Im curious about this too, I'm assuming it shows every firearm you've ever owned at a minimum?

Wondering the same thing. I never have issues when I purchase new firearms but that’s assuming it’s checking the same thing. If it’s checking on everything I’ve ever owned, boy that’s going to be a long list!! Lol

Status update, today went to LAPD Academy for the short interview and to hand in CCW Application. I was told to expect 2 letters, one stating that I submitted the application and 2nd would be either approval or denial letter.

It is surprising LASD is no longer requiring a denial letter from non-MOU agencies.

AV and LAPD Chief Moore are hosting a virtual event now. Hopefully someone (or I) will ask a question pertaining to CCWs. As we are all aware, LAPD rarely issues CCWs to the law-abiding. Most LAPD permits are for reserves and retirees. On July 17, 2020, LAPD had a mere 4 citizen permits on its books (see https://recordsrequest.lacity.org/requests/20-4079).

In attendance now. So far I've heard one reference to CCW with pretty typical responses from Villanueva and Moore. Nothing really new there.

For those who have been inquiring, here is how my application timeline broke down:

2-01-21 - mailed application to downtown L.A. location (per LASD)
2-10-21 - missed call from LASD (which I didn't see until a few days later)
2-15-21 - returned call to LASD and was scheduled for interview
2-17-21 - did interview
2-25-21 - CCW Unit emails with instructions to do livescan
2-25-21 - did Livescan and emailed proof to CCW Unit
3-20-21 - Livescan cleared (finally)
3-24-21 - CCW Unit emailed me to complete required training
4-11-21 - took training class
4-12-21 - emailed class certs (minor drama ensued - certificate unclear)
4-14-21 - sent acceptable class completion certificate
4-19-21 - email from CCW Unit re: receiving training docs and that I will be contacted to pick up license once my file is complete

I'll update this post when I receive my appointment to pick up my permit.

2/23/21 - contacted by LASD to reapply using the same good cause of my previous denials, and to bring my 2021 application to my interview with $30 check (previous applications were prior to the fee increase.
2/25 - interview
2/25 - told to submit LiveScan
3/1 - livescan submitted
3/10 - contacted to tell me livescan was complete and to sign up for a class
4/3 - took class and submitted documentation
4/5 - lasd confirmed receipt and said they would let me know when packet was complete
4/19 - called by someone at LASD to schedule permit pickup.

Hope this helps, I’m assuming going forward it’s going to be a lot slower because they’re getting inundated at this point.

I think I can answer, at least based on my experience in San Diego. They are checking to make sure that each firearm you are wanting listed on your permit is registered to you. I don't believe any firearms you are not listing have any importance in this process.

Does this mean the sheriffs get a list of every firearm registered to you and they compare it with your application? Or after you submit your livescan, do they provide the doj with the firearms you applied with?

During my interview, the deputy informed me that they only check the ones that are on the application. Livescan, I believe, only gives a clearance rather than the entire list of all your firearms even though they probably check that each is clear of any legal issues (e.g. reported as stolen).

Based on my experience, this description seems accurate.

The handguns are already registered to you when you DROS them. You only list the ones you want to actually carry. They check them to make sure there are no issues with the serial number like lost, stolen, etc.

Just a quick question but I am in the process of filing out the PDF application file but on some sections it is asking for a witness signature and badge number. Would it be possible for me to fill out everything else and just have a officer look it over and sign where they need to sign or would I have to fill out those sections in front of the officer?

Deputy told me it could take up to 6 weeks for live scan. My Torrance live scan (which is no longer required) is on week 3.
