Default EDC for SHTF? Are you Prepped Daily?

Hey CalGunners, just started a new prepping channel and figured I would share with you all. I relocated to North Dakota for a job opportunity and decided I would start a new project online as well. I used to be a partner at http://edcspecialties.com and I am very adamant about my EDC routine. I also think it applies for prepping as if you aren't prepared just for day to day situations, how can you be prepared for SHTF or TEOTWAWKI? Let me know what you think! (Troll city on the way)

Good video, no way could I carry all that **** in my summer clothes up here in the Sac valley. Small single stack 9mm, knife, watch and wallet for me.

A little advice, get a mechanical watch. Every man should have one!

I agree, the mechanical watch is a good idea. A nice automatic can go a long ways. Just have to make sure you wear it a lot or get one of those spinning watch stands!

I have a few mechanical watches to include a Marathon CSAR which is a real tank. While they don't have a battery or capacitor to worry about, they are complicated machines that require lubrication and the occasional tune up. Don't expect to get more than 10 years out of one without maintenance.

Or some cordage. 550, gut, bank line, or otherwise.

I've got no more room on my Batman utility belt for half of that stuff.

EDC gear is always subjective to the user. Different needs based on personal experiences and emergencies that are most likely to happen. Even how a guy dresses during all of the 2 seasons we put up with here in Zombieland. Coat/jacket/pants pockets/key chain can be over used IMO.

I'm a minimalist and adjust my load as needed, but this is my meat/potatoes gear:
Pistol + extra mag
Swiss pocket knife
swat TQ
micro cloth/nose wiper
mini Bic lighter
key ring has a bootable slacko usb, mini LED light, p38, blade screw driver as well as the usual key assortment.
2 money clips for ID/CC and cash.

It all fits with room to spare.

That is probably a solid idea! I will look in to that asap. Yes, EDC is very particular to the user but, sharing ideas helps improve it for sure!

Agreed! I wonder what you think is more practical. As I am not a smoker, would a Bic or a Zippo style lighter work better? And as for cordage, I do carry quite a bit with me in my vehicle however, maybe I should at least have a lanyard or watch strap made of paracord just in case.

S&W 340 and a good pocket knife. Everything else is in the pickup where it belongs including a rifle.

My worst case scenario would be walking home if there's a traffic jam, the less to carry the better. Water is something to consider as well as solid shoes. My objective is to get home to my family or someone who I know and trust home until my next move. Starting fires and camping out in the LA area isn't on my agenda. Pooping on my way home would probably be the last thing on my mind. Personal protection is always good and the quicker you can get to where you need to go before nightfall and or curfew the better. I am not sleeping in a vehicle waiting for traffic or road blocks and if it's raining then consider packable BREATHABLE rain gear. I can cover 10-15 miles in about 4-6 hours depending on terrain with a decent pace, speeed it up or jogging will shorten my time so to me the biggest and best thing I could do to prepare is to be in great physical shape

Nice video! Spot on with all the gear and basics of each item.
Can’t count how many times my blade came in handy or the flashlight.

Thanks for the kind words. I have definitely had a lot of trial and error. I've often been called a dork for my use of the flashlight haha.

I like the mini-BIC. It will fit in the watch pocket if you're wearing blue jeans.

Definitely Bic. Zippos dry out waaay too fast for your use. I have Bics that still work after 5 years of storing them. My Zippos are dry every time I try to use them.

Sounds like a plan then. I have never had much luck with Zippos myself so I am glad I don't have to go down that road again!

So I am working on a EDC bag.

I agree, the zippos (while super cool) dry out too fast. The bics last much longer. With that said, should the money be spent to invest in a windproof lighter that uses butane?

A small backpack is an amazing thing. No need for pockets, weight is distributed and comes in all sorts of sizes!

No. The money should be spent to buy many extra's of the bic's.

Lots of water. Swiss army knife, pistol, extra mag, box of ammo, package of dollar store tweaker lighters, 4x4 pads, roller bandages, duct tape... good to go! (only partially kidding)...minimal is good if you have to go on foot at some point.
