Default Moving out of CA. Renew COE?

I'm moving out of California before my next COE renewal comes up. Is there any reason why I should keep it other than if we end up needing to move back?

The COE is yearly and if you let it expire, you have to apply for a new one with a new live scan. But if you are moving, what is the probability of you moving back in a year or two or three? And if you move back, you would have to get a new CA DL and then start the COE process once received. Would you know within a reasonable time if you were to move back?

My job looks to be going away. Rather than spending time looking for a new position here, we are going to take our chances elsewhere. So the odds of returning are slim... I'll probably change careers before doing that.

Without knowing dates and timing, I would renew for now in case the move and career change does not go as planned.

Renewing will allow you to buy ammo here if you are visiting as well.

Forget about the COE, don't give California one more dime. You won't need it and like others have said, you will have to rescan to renew anyways.

I wish you and yours all the best. Nowadays there are no more hometown careers, you have to relocate, we did it, you can do it.

Thanks for the encouragement. It is official that we are leaving on Nov. 2. Our house sold faster than we thought so we will be living in our trailer for a few weeks. My job hasn't gone away just yet, but my boss is letting me move and work remotely from out of state until it does.

Having grown up in the Bay Area, it is a bittersweet time for us, but I am looking forward to reinstalling my Ergo grips.

We wish the best to those left behind.
