On the same page it shows you can purchase 25 pounds of long grain rice for $13.42 which is 3.33 cents per ounce.

For $26.58 I can repackage the rice and put it into a bucket and be ahead of the game financially... but as others will point out if I factor in my time the advantage might be marginal.

This is not the survival and preparedness forum but a word of warning when looking at these packaged survival food deals:

The number of calories per day these packages offer can differ dramatically.

Just looking a the Augason line in the past 48 hours I have found some that offer as little as 1,236 calories per day and others as many as 2,667 calories a day.

That kind of discrepancy is insane. I take the number of days the package is supposed to provide with a grain of salt and look at the calories and what food is in the package.

To figure out the value pricing I have been dividing the calories into the price to come up with a cost per calorie so I can compare apples to apples to to speak.

Not that calories is the only criteria for comparison there are many. From what I have read Augason packages have decent food, but two of the "disadvantages" are that some of their food has to be actually cooked rather than just add water, and the packaging is not broken down into individual servings: rather it will have bags with many servings of a particular food product. Nothing necessarily wrong with either of those two factors, but those are some of the reasons why Augason products cost less than some of their competitors. Competing products that put each serving into its own packaging and needs water only costs more.

I wouldn't buy this...the shelf life ranges from 10 to 25 years based upon the type of food in addition to storage conditions.

The milk can last up to 20 years and the banana chips up to 10 years.

Sucks if parts of your kit goes bad while others don't.

I'll freeze each bag for 48-72 hours to kill any bugs that may be inside and then repackage. In the past I have just repackaged in zip lock bags and put them in buckets. With this much however I hope to at least vacuum seal or ideally put into sealed Mylar bags with O2 absorbers.

I may check out those discounted plastic bins or something similar to store the repackaged rice.

That’s good price if you like eat Walmart rice. I don’t like Walmart rice l, I normally buying smart and final rice for 20bucks for 50lbs. Because I’m Asian I always have 100lb to 150lb rice (brown and white). So I don’t need to do a lot extra work to store those rice.

The last time I put up rice was in the 1990s. (Generic white rice) My wife dove into those stores and we used it up. Ten years of modest storage worked okay, but not great. (some of it repackaged into generic ziplock bags, but at least half of it was still in the original packaging)

I prefer brown Basmati rice, and it was a staple in my diet for most of the past decade or so but have been trying to avoid carbs and have not eaten much rice the past couple of years.

I want to re-stock my supplies with rice and package it up properly this time.

Earlier in the week I ordered 60 pounds of Royal brand white Basmati rice, but it is was basically twice the price per ounce of this generic Walmart long grain rice, and it is not scheduled to arrive for a few weeks. The cheapest Royal brand Basmati rice I could find just now is 8 cents an ounce, with most being 10-12 cents an ounce.

I am thinking I will work up how much freeze-dried veggies, meat, and sauces I should reasonably need to accompany this rice and put it up along side the rice.

Also got 10 of the Dak Hams for $35.00

Now I'll have nearly a month's worth emergency food for $110 or so.
