And what do you suppose that vaccine would cost?

As of Dec 20, no price announced

The vaccine, Ervebo, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday, a month after Europe gave its nod to the vaccine, a move that has been hailed by the World Health Organization.

“We have made a commitment to making the vaccine available to GAVI-eligible countries at the lowest possible access price,” Merck spokesman Skip Irvine said. “We have made that commitment but we have not yet established the price for the vaccine.

Default Ebola outbreak in Congo wanes

Let us not neglect the Old Standards!

https://oklahoman.com/article/565510...in-congo-wanes

Quote:

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The second-biggest Ebola outbreak in history, which has upended life in eastern Congo’s North Kivu and Ituri provinces since August 2018, infecting nearly 3,500 people and killing about 2,250, is down to its last chain of transmission.

Despite ongoing violence that has hampered the response from its outset, and that has spiked again recently, new cases have dwindled. At its height last May, hundreds were contracting the disease every week.

Well, we couldn't have things settle down could we?

https://arstechnica.com/science/2020...9-rage-in-drc/

Quote:
The new Ebola outbreak is in the western city of Mbandaka, the capital of the Équateur Province. The city—situated at the junction of the Congo and Ruki Rivers—is a major trade and travel hub and home to more than 1 million people.

On Monday, June 1, 2020, officials confirmed an outbreak with six cases so far (three confirmed, three probable). Four of the cases have died, and two are being treated. The World Health Organization reported that officials expect to find more cases as outbreak responses ramp up.

The outbreak is the 11th recorded in the DRC since Ebola was discovered in the country in 1976.

Officials believe that the DRC’s new outbreak is unrelated to the ongoing 10th outbreak, which began in August 2018 on the eastern side of the country—in the North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri provinces. That outbreak has included 3,463 cases (3,317 confirmed and 146 probable), and 2,280 people have died, making it the second-largest outbreak recorded.

Great just what we need. Ebola mixes with Covid and goes airborne. Sounds like a Stephen King book...

Quote:
Meanwhile, officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have confirmed four cases in the North Kivu Province, where the second-largest Ebola outbreak ended in June of 2020. That outbreak had a total of nearly 3,500 cases and nearly 2,300 deaths. It’s unclear if the new cases are linked to that outbreak via latent, persistent infection or if it represents a new “spillover” event of the virus moving to humans from an unidentified animal host.

Quote:
The Ebola viruses behind a new outbreak in Guinea are stunningly similar to viruses identified during the massive West Africa outbreak that spanned 2013 to 2016, according to a new genetic analysis. The finding suggests that virus may have silently persisted in a survivor for at least five years and that the current outbreak was sparked by that unlucky person, rather than a spillover from an animal reservoir.

You didn't think 'the hook' was done with us, did you?

Toddler dies of Ebola after 3 suspicious deaths in DRC; 148 contacts identified
Quote:
The boy's death closely follows the suspicious deaths of three of his neighbors, a father and his two daughters. One of the daughters died on September 14, followed by the father's death on September 19 and the other daughter's death on September 29. The family displayed symptoms consistent with Ebola but were not tested for the virus. The two daughters, however, had tested positive for malaria.

What a cesspool...two of the victims tested positive for malaria but apparently died from ebola...petri dish of a region.

So, an update on last March's post, http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...&postcount=770

https://www.sciencealert.com/ebola-c...al-its-hideout

Quote:
After analysing the brains of 36 macaques treated for Ebola who had survived for at least four weeks, scientists found a persistent viral reservoir in the fluid-filled cavities of the forebrain and brainstem in 7 of them.

"We found that about 20 percent of monkeys that survived lethal Ebola virus exposure after treatment with monoclonal antibody therapeutics still had persistent Ebola virus infection – specifically in the brain ventricular system, in which cerebrospinal fluid is produced, circulated, and contained – even when Ebola virus was cleared from all other organs," says Xiankun (Kevin) Zeng from the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Biden Administration Orders Airport Ebola Screenings Amidst Deadly Ugandan Outbreak

Quote:
Ten deaths and 44 cases have been confirmed in the East African nation, and around two dozen other deaths are under investigation. Although no cases have been reported elsewhere, all travelers entering the U.S. who have been to Uganda in the past 21 days will soon be diverted to five major airports — JFK in New York, Newark in New Jersey, O’Hare in Chicago, Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta, and Dulles near Washington, D.C. — to ensure everyone is screened.
I had seen the Uganda outbreak earlier, but an Official Event here.

EEEEEEbooooolaaaa boogieman!!! Just in time for Halloween

Thinking about this.... seriuosly now.
Southern border screens nobody. Somebody forgot to close the barn door again and again, again, etc... crickets chirping while the longest Conga line in history invades. Zero screenings out in the desert too.

Concern is rising over the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Uganda that is now swiftly spreading in the densely populated capital city of Kampala. The outbreak is caused by a lesser-seen species of Ebolavirus, the Sudan virus, for which there is no proven vaccine or treatment.

Default Marburg virus in Equatorial Guinea Feb 2023

https://arstechnica.com/science/2023...response-race/
Quote:
Without vaccines or targeted antivirals, Marburg outbreaks have been extinguished using standard containment responses (quarantines, contact tracing, etc.) before they could flare to dangerous levels. But when things get out of hand, the consequences are devastating. An outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which was linked to young mine workers in the northeastern part of the country, stretched from 1998 to 2000 and caused 154 cases and killed 128 (an 83 percent fatality rate). And from 2004 to 2005, an outbreak in Angola saw 252 cases with 227 deaths (a 90 percent fatality rate).

Health officials are now trying to keep such a scenario from recurring in Equatorial Guinea, with case numbers already in the double digits. Adding to the risk is the fact that the cases are in the northeast corner province of Kie-Ntem, which borders both Cameroon and Gabon, raising concerns of a multicountry outbreak.

There are 6 known strains of Ebola / Hemorrhagic fever, they are: Reston (only monkeys but airborne), Bundibugyo, Sudan, Côte d'Ivoire, Zaire and Bombali. They're all extremely contagious, so far the 5 strains that affect humans are not transmitted by Airborne mechanics. The good thing about Ebola is it kills / sickens humans quickly, which has prevented it's spread across the planet.....so far.

I'm shocked that Boko Harram or some other jihadist psychopath group hasn't gotten their people infected and fly them to the US. A white paper was written on an Ebola pandemic released in North America and the death rate would be approx 2/3rds of the population. Kinda makes covid look like a bad joke.

We have successfully treated people with Ebola, but once the disease is released among the public, it will devastate hundreds of millions of people and shutdown the world. I never understood the insanity of intentionally bringing contagious Ebola patients to the US, where it can easily lead to a true pandemic of biblical proportions. We should treat anyone in Africa, then as they're no longer contagious, allow them home in isolation for a few weeks.
