Default My 2013 Macbook Pro just... kind of died.. almost

I have an older but not ancient MBPro. Been very happy with it, always did the OS upgrades except the very latest since it's full 64-bit.

So today I noticed it become sluggish and tried to kill/quit some apps and they wouldn't die. Did a shutdown, wouldn't shut down because those apps wouldn't die! Had to kill from apple menu but it took many tries.

Got it shut down. Upon reboot tried to start those apps - no! I can only run the built-in apps such as terminal, Activity Monitor. Nothing like MS Word, Excel, Firefox, Chrome. Weird! Computer very very slow.

Reboot, tried again. No difference. Looked online, found out how to run diagnostic by doing shutdown, wake, hold D key, run diag. It found nothing!

Restart- still the same! The desktop comes up no problem but can't run a single meaningful app! 8G RAM, Mojave 10.14.6, 256G SSD, i7

Finder runs. When I run an app it 'bounces' in the bottom bar for a while. No window appears. Then I go to force quit I see it in the list but cannot switch to it. It's as if they become a zombie process right a way.

Tried booting into safe mode - apps still don't start, they just go into zombie mode

Fixed! Noticed a couple days ago that Adobe Flash was at end of life, it wanted to self-uninstall. I let it stay since "I might need it some day"...

After this issue I did some browsing. Someone suggested to uninstall flash, so I did.

*poof!* Everything is back to normal, laptop is fast again

Good to know. My MacBook Air runs everything but it's slowing down. It only has 2GB of soldered RAM so I guess I'm stuck. It has the i5 from mid-2011.
