Resize 30-06 to .270?
I have a .270 win rifle that I shoot often and intend to start reloading for. My dad has a Remington 710 in 30-06 that's always been good to us, but it does have the recall on the trigger and with current state of Remington, I'm not sure it will ever be fixed. Not sure I'll ever own a 30-06 outside of maybe a cmp Garand one day.
I've been saving brass from both rifles for years. I'm set up to reload .270 and curious if it is worth resizing the 30-06 brass to .270 or not. I have hundreds of once fired .270 brass and a few hundred NIB .270 rounds as well, so I can't help but think it's not needed nor worth the effort, but I'm curious what you all would recommend. If you already have that much .270 brass, I wouldn’t bother. I would probably still hang on to the 30-06 brass (or sell some, if you have a lot) in case you ever want to reload for it.

If you do, be aware that the 270 case is about .05" longer than the .30-06 case, so you're going to come up a bit short (though practically, that probably won't matter much.) You should make sure that, after necking the cases down, your chamber has ample clearance for bullet release (the neck will get a bit thicker when the case mouth diameter is decreased.) |

It's a Ross Schuler 4 port brake, and I had Randall (AR15barrels) to install it. I'll have a range report next week.

The 270 is the same length as the 280 Remington but the 280 is longer from the shoulder to case head than the 30/06 and 270 by .051" . And then there is that longer and or shorter about necking up and or down but that is too much to keep up with. F. Guffey |
