You can carry even stuff not on your CA permit. Just load up when you cross over.

AZ, like most other states, doesn't care what you carry. Kind of like your driver's license covers all vehicles in the class.

Arizona doesn't make any distinction whether or not you are a resident or non-resident. The permit combined with government ID determines anything distinguished about residency in the law or for reciprocity/honoring purposes.

So I spoke with AZ DPS this week. There were 12 people ahead of me in the phone queue, which resulted in a total wait time of 59 minutes on hold. I was rather surprised by the hold time with only 12 callers ahead of me, however they are still very busy!
DPS is currently entering ALL applications within 1-2 weeks of receipt thru the mail. After that, time frames are determined by your background check results. If there are then any issues that arise and require further manual review/investigation to clear you, that is where they are really behind. I would recommend you contact DPS about three weeks after they have received your application and you have not heard anything or received your CWP. And things are going to get much better! At some point this summer, DPS will be transitioning to an online system for permits and renewals. In conjunction with this, they will also most likely change the format and style of the actual physical CWP. Which led me to ask purely out of curiosity, why DPS dropped the hologram in the upper right corner of the CWP? Well the machine that applied the hologram broke and it was so old that a replacement could not be sourced, so they simply stopped applying the hologram, LOL! |

These folks are really good. They look at your expiration date and send it about a week before. |

That's potentially a problem for me. I need it for an out of state trip several weeks before that and crossing my expiration date. Ironically enough to a state *not* covered by Utah which I keep current primarily for Washington.

Mailed mine and my husband's the same day. They expire within a few days of each other. Got one back well after when it expired and the other two months later. |

In December, I sent in my renewal application for my permit expiring in March. I finally called today and waited in the queue for 58 minutes. The person answering my call had to manually review my application and will send it out today.
They must be really backlogged. In February, I received a letter dated 12/2/22 informing me that my permit would expire in March.

Renewal finally received Saturday. The email response I received told me they were changing the issue/expiration date to some date last week. But when I received it, the date coincides with my previous issue/expiration. So technically I have two AZ permits for a month.
The overall card has a hologram background now instead of the corner hologram. |

In all non-resident States I operate with an abundance of caution. I find it wise to be prudent and only carry one of the ten firearms actually listed on my license. Some States do care, some don?t. A CYA moment!

Otherwise, if you?re using AZ non-resident CCW say in NV, since AZ has no weapon restriction, it wouldn?t matter what you carried as long as you abided by NV laws and AZ CCW weapon restrictions (none). Plus, states like NV don’t recognize CA CCWs anyway. Just strange to live in a state of fear OUTSIDE of CA.

I find this to be good news and suspect that this is part of the AZ DPS migration to a completely online system for all permits and renewals! Can you post an image of your new CWP, but don't forget to redact all of your personal info! |

I apologize, probably shouldn?t have post thoughts on this thread not specific to AZ.
9Cal actually made my point better than I did, stating ?unless you are using your CA CCW as your OOS permit?. Know everything relevant to what permits you have(or don?t) wherever you?re going. An abundance of caution doesn?t translate into living in fear. |
