Default I kind of wish there was a more universal Firearms Credential

As far as I'm aware, there is no universal credential firearms related that without question is accepted everywhere firearms are in question that one is qualified and knows what they are doing with firearms.

Here me out. You take your state drivers license for instance and can drive to any state with it. If you show it to a police officer at a traffic stop they will say, yep, that's good to go, that's legit. You can take your class C license and drive a sedan, van, truck, box truck, automatic or manual, and even a large RV. You are good to go.

With firearms, everyone is an expert without a definitive measure of who's d!ck is bigger.

My kid's scout camp had to cancel it's BB gun event because lack of Boy Scout Trained range officers. So I'm not qualified.

I am however an
NRA life member
NRA RSO certified
USPSA classified member
US Army qualified range safety officer (only for Ft Hunter Ligget)
US Army weapon qualified on Rifle and Pistol (and grenade )
California Police Academy Qualified on Pistol and Shotgun.

So all of that wasn't good enough for the Scouts, and it wasn't good enough for my local Gun Club I'm a member of, so yea I'm also:

Local Club member RSO qualified (the VERY RANGE the Scout event would have been at)

***********
I get it, I kind of know how we came to this. Everyone has a god given right to walk into a gun store and buy anything regardless of competency and sling it around ready to go. You could be a special forces trainer or an 18 year old city boy who's never held a firearm. They are equals in the eye of credentials, because credentials are specific only to the immediate application in question.

I don't know what I was getting at. I guess my point is every firearms situation has it's own little fiefdom. It's annoying. The idiot in charge of any given range or match only gets his credentials from his little fiefdom, and there is nothing higher, only different for different applications.

Every swinging dick in the world thinks they're a firearms expert. Ever been inside a gun shop?

Some orgs take other orgs credentials, some don't. It's probably an insurance thing.

It comes down to this.

They likely want you to have NRA instructor credentials.

Just cause you’re qualified with something doesn’t mean you’d be an instructor for it. If that’s the case, we have a lot of CCWs instructors walking around just cause one qualified with their weapon (some people are even questionable with their shooting abilities).

While the NRA stuff isn’t the best instruction, it does focus on delivering the material (TPI and such).

With your background, you’d probably breeze through it. It’s more of the formality of having the cert from them.

Edit: reading it again, looks like you’d want to be an RSO for their event. It’s ridiculous to not allow you to even though you’re an RSO for that range along with NRA RSO. Either a money grab for that org or politics.

In the end, they’re missing out on quality people.

You would think that organizations like the Boy Scouts could accept a national standard such as NRA RSO or instructor.

When I was going for my NRA pistol certification, just because it’s basically “step #1” - had a classmate who wanted to get certification so we could RO a Scouts event. If I would recall - he already had the NRA RSO, but he also needed the “Firearms Instructor” credential. Is that what you are really missing?

Default Hard to say

It looks like the Boy Scouts of America largely require NRA programs, but the local Scout's Council seems to set the bar on RSO's. A bit odd really, but the particular issue seems to be a local one. Boy Scouts Shooting FAQ

This!

I have a rich variety of credentials over a wide range of disciplines,

most were fairly easy to get and many were, IMHO, largely meaningless...

Boy Scouts often have their own rules and requirements, including some time to get on their list of approved counselors.

You are “qualified”, but not approved.

BSA has been destroying itself from within by excess bureaucracy and legalities for years.

I helped as an ASM and CC for 12 years.
Don’t think I could do it today.

As far as the Boy Scouts are concerned with HR2571 in place it's kinda moot anyway right?

What kind of qualification the Boy Scouts were willing to accept.

The NRA Qualifications are typically the only ones recognized by State and Federal Government Agencies.

+1 on NRA credentials. No matter what you think of their politics, their credentials are recognized country wide.
