It started out as a UFX Camper; I've obtained it in January, thought I wouldn't change anything to it besides getting a front fiber optic sight. But I got inspired by the internet.

How tall of a front sight did you get from Dawson to match the rear factory sight? Was thinking .420”

Default Just Bought My First! New Grips Question

Hi,

Last this morning, I just ordered my first .22LR pistol, a Buck Mark Camper UFX.

I'd like to upgrade the gray grips to brown medium-dark wood, like sootch00's Buck Mark in his review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aviJ...annel=sootch00

I checked Flea-Bay and Amazon, but only found one compatible, and that was plastic (for $30, mind you). Any suggestions on brand/model and vendor?

Thanks

Default How to clean it?

Hi, how your Buck Mark is cleaned? Do you need to take it down to clean every time after shooting? The field strip needs to take screws out to disassemble which seems not good to do it frequently.

Browning states that you should not disassemble the pistol to clean it. It's not necessary. I've fired tens of thousands of rounds through my 4 Buckmarks over the years. I've NEVER had one apart for any reason.

Once and a while I'll remove the grips, and give the entire pistol, along with the magazines, a good washing in clean Kerosene, with a soft bristled brush. Followed by a good blow drying with compressed air.

This leaves the entire gun totally clean and dry. I then apply a light layer of oil, and reinstall the grips. And the gun is cleaner than when I took it from the box.

Try Altamont grips. They make several laminated wood grip styles for the Camper UFX, although some styles are currently unavailable. They are the current OEM supplier of wood grips for the Browning Buckmark:

https://www.altamontco.com/pistol-gr...ning/buckmark/

You might also try Midwest Gunworks who sells Browning OEM Buckmark wood grips:

https://www.midwestgunworks.com/brow...uck-mark/parts

A search of eBay today shows a larger selection than on the day of your post:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...grips&_sacat=0

Be patient and persistent and you will find the wood grips you are looking for!

Thumbs up

Sure

It started life as a plane jane Buckmark rifle. Was boringly reliable & accurate.

Wanted something spicy(er). It kinda reminded me of the Boba Fett blaster, but ultimately decided on a Stormtrooper theme.

First had to pull & sand the wood. Cutting into the buttstock was the hardest part. Once I started there was no going back
The rifle was pretty beefy for its size so the bottom cut was aesthetic & practical.

I decided to mod the hand guard to mimic the Stormtrooper E-11 blaster, but with a practical purpose.

I basically just flattened the bottom with a belt sander, then recessed some screw holes to mount an aluminum pic rail, then an AFG. The rail is rock-solid.

After that it was prime, sand, prime, sand, paint, paint, paint, clearcoat, clearcoat, clearcoat.

The 4x scope was also painted to match. Striplin Custom 1911 grip panel adaptors & some 1911 grips finished it up.
