Use that and just write in the company/trainer you took your training with.

I remember when I applied, just sent the a copy of the training certificate. Issued about 2 weeks later.

i don’t know if this is part of the packet but u also have to get your fingerprints done. u didn’t mention where u took your ccw class. I did mine at Discount gun mart and the instructor had the fingerprint forms/paper application.

Here's what I'm not understanding... Are they basically just not processing applications right now, except for when people call them to inquire, at which point they run it instantly?

Has anyone had their app go through recently without having to call them?

It seems so strange, AZ DPS used to be so efficient and fast, and lately it feels like they're only processing the people who call to ask what's taking so long, and kinda just ignoring anyone else who isn't calling.

I'm honestly considering just letting my AZ permit go. Kinda bummed that I sent them a money order for this last renewal, only to get ignored, but oh well. I'll just stick with my CA and UT.

That is where I took my class! Oh well, I printed the packet and will most likely find the nearest agency to do the fingerprinting for me.

If you have a CCW issued by CA, that is all you need. You do not need to send anything else, just a copy of your CCW. No need to send a training cert.

Applicant Instructions

- Determine whether you meet the qualifications to obtain a concealed weapons permit.
- Review the provisions contained in Arizona Revised Statute Title 13, chapters 4 and 31 which are available on the Arizona State Legislature website.

Title 13 Chapter 31 section 13-3112 E(6)(d) and N(6)

Quote:
E. The department of public safety shall issue a permit to an applicant who meets all of the following conditions:
...
6. Has ever demonstrated competence with a firearm as prescribed by subsection N of this section and provides adequate documentation that the person has satisfactorily completed a training program or demonstrated competence with a firearm in any state or political subdivision in the United States. For the purposes of this paragraph, "adequate documentation" means:
...
(d) An original or a copy of a concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or a license as prescribed by subsection N, paragraph 6 of this section.

N. An applicant shall demonstrate competence with a firearm through any of the following:

6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

Applied in late May. Didn't receive any communication from AZ. Called in today and was informed the application was received on June 8. Today is 73 business days from the date. Gentleman asked me to wait on the line to clear the background check. Background cleared, was informed the card would be printed out next day.

Lesson? Call them directly. (602) 223-2000

My application was received August 3rd, I called today and the nice lady said it will be in the mail tomorrow, and she verified my mail address.
Thanks for the heads up.

Called today being I've hit 90 days. My background was flagged, but not because of me. It was due to having a similar name to someone else, even though our names are spelled differently. Odd....Regardless they cleared it out of the system and it'll go out tomorrow.

Beginning to think as everyone else has said, they're just waiting for people to call to push them through. Regardless glad I am getting it.

I just finally got around to calling, and they told me the exact same thing. Background was flagged due to, and I quote, "apparently you're not the only person in the country with your name". He cleared the flags, said renewal will be mailed out tomorrow.

I guess that's kind of just the M.O. right now, when a background gets flagged they just wait for the person to eventually call them.

Also kind of weird that it's been happening so much. That's literally the first time in my life that a background has been flagged for any reason - it didn't even happen when I got my initial AZ 5 years ago.

Just a WAG, possibly a huge pile of applications. They're working their way through the pile, an applicant calls. "Ok, this person has more interest, I'll address it right away".
Just musing here.

I have a pretty unique first and last name so personally, I didn't buy the flag for someone with a similar name. Of course, I don't work in backgrounds so I don't know if someone with a similar name, but spelled differently would flag it. I have heard some crazy stories.

Regardless, like you, this is the first time I've been flagged.

Haha, ya I was just going to let me permit lapse since I couldn't get the time to call them during business hours lately, glad I finally did though. If nothing else, it means I didn't waste the $43 or whatever the renewal cost.

In truth, I haven't even used my AZ permit even once since I got it 5 years ago, and I've been to over 30 states in that time, but none of those states were NM Still, better to have it and not need it, I guess!

My CA permit had restrictions that my AZ permit didn't.
In CA I deferred to the CA license. Outside CA I deferred to the AZ license.

I guessing he has a different out of state permit besides AZ. CA permit only gives you about 20ish states of recognition.

Most likely Utah.

For Californians traveling the western US - the only significant difference between the two is Utah covers Washington and Arizona covers New Mexico. There was a window not too long ago where Nevada honored Utah but not Arizona....but AZ has been back on NV's list for quite some time now.

Thank you everyone for keeping this thread alive and relevant, though it has gotten a bit long and difficult to find specific answers.
As the OP, I welcome questions that have been asked before.

Confirmed, renewals are taking minimum 75 to 110 days. Called at 1 month and they stated that time frame and to give it another month plus to see if it gets started in the system.

Oh well.

Finally got my 3rd permit, second renewal.

Mailed 7-15-21 called them a few days ago, nice person said I was approved 9-30-21 and itís been mailed. Got it today 10-8-21, 8 days from ArizonaÖ.(wow)

So 2.5 months. They did mention how busy they are. Very competent people.

I do think itís important to call after 75 days and be pleasant.

Be well
Bob

Reminds me, I need to renew my UT permit. The AZ permit doesn't get me anything anymore, I hate to let it lapse but it's hard to justify it. UT gets me Washington.

Oh well.
Try giving them another call. I sent mine back in August and they said the same thing. I gave them another call a few days ago and the customer service rep told me that it's help up in the background stage. She looked it over and cleared it over the phone. Told me it'll get printed and shipped on the next business day.

My CA IA requires that I inform LE in the instance of contact, there is no specification that requirement is only for CA LE. I assume that out of state I am still required to inform LE of my LTC status if there is contact.

Am I wrong?

If you’re out of state using your CA CCW, then you are required to inform in that state that recognizes CA CCW.

If you’re in a state other than CA that has no duty to inform, AND you have your AZ CCW (e.g. Nevada), then you don’t have a duty to inform, but it is recommended.

Keep it simple and use your out of state permit when out of state, and depending on the state’s law about duty to inform, plan accordingly and make the choice (if not required to inform) to inform the officer.

Reciprocity and recognition laws are a dynamic and ever changing issue. Keep your Arizona CCW. It costs $60.00 to renew it. Support the great state of Arizona and keep your permit as you never know when you will need it. this is a no brainer!

$43 to renew. I agree, itís redundant but practical.

Got mine in the mail yesterday. Took 9 days to get after the follow-up call. That's including Saturday's being they said it would go out next day. Columbus day cost a day though.

Happy with it.

Got mine yesterday as well, 11 days after phone call. I'm sure most of that was USPS being slow.

AW Reg. will be reopened Jan. '22 to those who weren't able to register by 7/2018. We don't know what that means for firearms made compliant when reg. failed or if they can or must be converted to AW configuration before registering. There's a moratorium on prosecutions for possession of AWs which were eligible for registration, but AWs acquired after 2016 can still be prosecuted!
Extremely important note: DON'T register anything acquired after 2016!!!

I may have missed it in here but where do you get the finger print cards and who is authorized to do them? Don't feel like spending 100 dollars for the sheriffs office to do it

I think UPS store does them, IIRC.

I bought an impregnated ink pad and just did mine myself at home, but I forget if that's technically allowed or not. This was a number of years ago and they didn't care then, but times change

They donít care who rolls them, along with UT.

FL requires they are taken by a LE agency.
