whatever Mossberg you decide to get, check out CDMGEAR for safeties and light mounts. http://cdmgear.com/shotgunsafeties.html

CDMGEAR is well thought out and designed. Easier to reach and operate safeties. Their light mounts are the lightest and easiest to install. If you're going to use your 590 as an HD weapon, It absolutely should have a quality light and mount on it

Mount? Thanks for the well intention advice, but I am more of a Hickok45, Paul Harrell or Who the Who kind of guy, not tacti-cool. I find putting a light on a way for the other side to have an advantage seeing me before I see him. Besides where I am, there are outside lights and its not completely dark even inside.

Have had a 590A1 w bead sight for 6-7 years. Kept it all stock. Never given me one issue. the heavy 20" barrel seems to tame recoil a bit-- I've shot all sorts of 00 and slug loads out of it and just keeps on going.

It's my primary HD gun w 1911 bedside to get to it.

Seriously though, there really isnít a reason not to have a light on a 2 handed long gun for home defense. If it is not needed you can always turn it off.
There is big one, I do not want one. Non of you know the layout of my house, where I am, or if I will use this for HD. I have a standalone flashlight and a semi auto next to my bed. So if you feel the need to have one get it and add it!
