Default Yolo 'fuge

So, in my daughters first ever draw, she pulls #8 at Yolo I have never been and have been checking out the maps and layout. Anyone have any insight/advice on the place? There are 16 blinds so no issue getting one of those, which I think would be best for her first ever duck hunt. The cool part is we are in WS so an easy 20 min drive.

Thanks

Employees are usually very helpful with picking blinds. Ask them.

If it’s a 20 minute drive go scout it out.

Many moons ago when I hunted refuges, they posted the average number of birds shot at each blind. It was online. They also would post those averages on a board at the check-in station.

Nice. I can hear them from my house.

I like listening to guys shooting. You can tell the hits and misses. Single shots. Hit. Three shots real fast, all misses.

Last time I was there, we had to wade out to the blind in a couple feet of water. Be prepared to wade out. Walking sticks help a lot. Definitely go scout if you can.

We did pretty good...hope you slay ‘em.

From the sounds of it they have been shooting pretty decently. I also thought they posted results online but cannot find them for some reason. I could swear I had seen them in the past.

I do plan to scout it out if it is open on non shoot days. The Sac Valley fuges are closed and locked on non shoot days, maybe Yolo is different.

She is pretty excited about her first hunt, thanks for the help.

You won't be able to scout the blind areas, but the HQ will have the blind results from previous hunt days.

Overall refuge stats are available online at the link below. Individual blind stats are normally kept at the refuge HQ/check station.

I hunted blind 7 a few weeks ago. Lots of dead rotting ducks in the pond. Tons of crickets and spiders in the blind. Other blinds too close so when birds start to work someone fires a shot and they take off.
