I am leaning towards a scope mount that allows use of the stock iron sights... (44 Remmag)
And scope magnification range suggestions welcomed... Any suggestions ? . |

This would be a fun setup. Period correct for an 1894.

For mount I like the Skinner express scope mount, with qd talley rings. From scoped to iron sights in about 3 seconds, and Skinner makes quality products. Xs lever rail is also very good. They sell a post that allows screw in apertures, need to dig around the website to find it.
I would not recommend trying to get super high see through rings however. Sorta worst of both worlds imo. |

I added a skinner to my lever gun. I went with a peep sight.
Peep sights are superior to the buckhorn to me. Friends suggested a LPVO but I think I’ll stick with a peep. Very happy with the skinner product on lever guns

On my Marlin 1894 with sling chambered in .357 magnum, you can see the scope set up, and it has the hammer extension.
![]() Below it is my Winchester model 94AE chambered in .357 magnum, for buckhorn/ iron sight shooting..

How about a Receiver Sight and forget mounting a scope that will make the gun handle like Log. The gun is a 100-150 yard gun you don't need a scope for that distance.
Get a Lyman 66 LA off Ebay and mount it. You won't regret it. Randy

![]() I have an FXII Scout 2.5 X 28 that I use on my RGS and when looking for another I find they're discontinued. Is there a replacement of sorts? perhaps something with some small adjustability?

The only scout type scope they have currently listed is the 1.5 to 4x. Hopefully they are just refreshing the design and will relaunch them.
Burris makes a 2.75x, as well as a 2-7x. I have the 2-7 and it's fairly reasonable quality. Not currently mounted on anything, but I did enjoy it when it was on my 1894. |

^ ^ ^ Let's hope they do.
Thanks for your reply. The steel Lyman 66LA that W.R. recommends is the ticket if you can find one. There are new aluminum versions all day long on Ebay. I've just had fitted (thanks, Randall R!) an XS Sights Systems ghost ring/white front post to a Marlin 39A... and it is fantastic although doesn't offer the quick adjustability of the Lyman. IMG_2253.jpg If I do put any glass on any of my levers (my eyes are not getting any younger) it would be in the forward-mounted, extended-eye-relief manner. Hence the Leupold scout scope(s).

I thought the xs system was nice, and really love their front blade. They do offer them in different heights, but you have to contact them directly to get them. The Skinner express I went with required a substantially (.15 iirc) higher front sight than came stock with my team rifle.

Most of my lever guns carry adjustable peep rear and globe front. I have very good vision and the longer sight radius with "circle in a circle in a circle" does fine for me out to 100 yds or so. And you can keep the peep rear mounted with the scope attached, just set the ladder down low. I'd say get a 2.5X straight tube scope, but a 2.5X won't do anything better than the irons. If a scope is used perhaps the smallest 4X with no front bell.

You're welcome.
Just checked re scope base, they're called "pivot" swing away by Weaver. I have a Marlin 62 in 30 Carbine among others and they work fine.
