Default Placer Recent initial ccw apps

Are there any stories of recent applications for initial issue? Has anyone been denied for not having cause?? Would travel for work in remote and high crime areas be cause for issue?? Placer site says proof of good cause?!? Is the new sheriff denying people?? Thanks for your valuable time in advance.

As of a year ago "self defense" was good cause. While this was under Bonner, Bell is even more 2A friendly.
They haven't updated the website but you should be fine with "self defense"

Default Placer CCW application process

Application has been submitted to the sheriffs office with my cause being self defense/ personal protection to summit up and also added more detail of my unique situation as a father and being away from home a lot. I was honest about everything relevant to issue and will hope for the best.

Thank you.
Very simple. Just go to a CCW instructor to qualify with your new pistol, then go to the Placer Sheriff's website and follow the links for CCW modification. It will ask you to upload a picture of your new pistol's qualification certificate, and ask for some other info, you pay $10 (I think? I forget exactly how much), and then your new CCW arrives in the mail a week later.

So, even though it states that you will be notified when to go pick up your standard renewal, they are actually mailing them? Is that correct?

Moved last week to a new address within Placer County. Submitted my proof of residency this afternoon and got an email a couple hours later that the new permit was in the mail!

Go placer!! That's the way it should be in all 58 counties. This county rocks. A true pro-2a sheriff. Happy to hear that they made it really simple for you, as it should be!

Here is the timeline of my recent application. All in all it was a very simple and straightforward process. My boss had a similar timeline, but about a week behind me and he was notified of his approval today as well.

-4/15 Attended CCW class and submitted application online. Booked interview appointment for 8/9 (first available). After checking back multiple times I was able to move my interview date to 6/14.

-4/25 Went to Sheriff's office and did Livescan.

-5/16 With some help from a friend with connections I got my in-person interview. My good cause was simply "for the protection of myself and my family".

-6/7 Notified by PCSO that my application had been approved and that once I paid the final $80 I would receive my permit in the mail within 10 days.

Here to post my timeline as I jut received my permit.

5/9 - applied and scheduled interview date
5/12 - live scan
6/10 - completed training class
6/21 - interview (originally scheduled for 7/26 but was able to reschedule for an earlier date)
6/22 - received approval email and paid final fee
6/27 - received permit in mail

The interview process was more like a conversation and not an actual interview, granted there were background questions he had to ask. My background is squeaky clean so we ran through that pretty quickly and spent the remainder of the time talking about work and politics. Investigator was an awesome guy, retired sac pd. I was surprised that he didn’t mention a single thing about good cause during the interview. I typed up a nice letter and submitted it with my app so I feel like that answered any GC questions that would’ve come up. He asked about driving tickets and while I don’t have any I mentioned I’ve gotten a couple fix it tickets in the past of which he didn’t care about. The entire process was pretty smooth. I just wish they’d upgrade to a nice plastic card instead of the small piece of paper your license is printed on.

Agree with the desire for a plastic card instead of a paper that I need to get laminated. (even after folding in half it is pretty bulky!) Arizona's is a nice card...(But I am VERY happy to have it so maybe I should not complain!)

I trimmed mine then folded it in half, then laminated each half separately, leaving the crease unlaminated so it folds and unfolds really easy. It's the same size as my CDL and fits neatly behind it in my wallet.

I renewal about a year ago. Filed online application on a Monday and got notification the following day (Tuesday) that my renewed permit was ready.

So, less than 24 hours.

I think I renewed on a Sunday night late last year, and my permit arrived in the mail on like Tuesday or Wednesday. They are crazy fast.

Had a question about qualifying with and getting approved to carry off-roster guns in Placer county.

I would like to acquire a Glock 19x and a Glock 43 but before I do so, I wanted to see if anyone here had experience in qualifying and successfully adding those off-roster guns to their ccw permit. I know I will be paying a premium for those guns and I want to add them to my ccw permit as additional justification for having to pay a premium. Otherwise, I'll just look into getting other guns that I know I for sure can add to my ccw.

I carry a Glock 43 every day (love the little thing to bits btw). Adding it to your CCW is no different than any other handgun. Just make sure you have the stock trigger on there and you're good to go. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Additionally, from the Placer Sheriff website:

If the weapon is listed as a “single shot” weapon with the Department of Justice, it is prohibited from being carried as a concealed weapon.

So basically, if it was bought under SSE (single-shot exemption), you can't put it on your permit.

But if it was purchased in a private party transaction (PPT), or if it was SSE but you did a pawn/return transaction, then you could use it.

What’s the take on red dots being permitted for Placer County for ccw? Sights are permitted mods but there’s also the associated milling and refinishing involved with installing a red dot on something like a Gen3 Glock
