Default P226 Noob Question

Hey guys/gals!

Is it possible to order a P226 without rails? Are they even available without rails these days? I'm working on building my classic 9mm collection and the P226 is on my list.

Thanks everyone!

Not from a CA dealer unless you're exempt. PPT, yes.

The P226 Classic Carry is what you're looking for in a new production, railess P226, although it has the newer, long extractor unlike the P229 Classic Carry that uses the legacy slide and short extractor, but with the 13-rnd frame of the P228 and early P229.

Thanks for the info code_blue; I was fearing that we didn't have a legal non-railed version and I guess I was sadly correct.

Omg, that is one attractive gun!

I guess I'll get a Beretta 92FS and Glock G17 for almost the same amount a P226 will run me.

West German P226's come up for sale pretty regularly on CG. It's where I got mine.

I'm not sure which one is better but I'll be getting both eventually....

I'm just a big fan of classic 9mm platforms; I am so bummed out the Browning Hi-Power is discontinued so I'm on the hunt for other classics......

I'm checking out the Beretta 92 FS on the Turner links you have on your signature and I'm getting very tempted to pull the trigger on one of them while having my USP Elite on layaway.....

Good for you! I have more 9mm than you can shake a stick at.

Between my P226, 92FS Inox, HK USP-9 I don't have a clear favorite. They're all three my faves.

I did recently get a CZ-75 I use as my competition gun, but for all around use I still like the previous three better.

Don't worry about it. It's a crappy gun. In 1935 it was probably great compared to other handguns, but it's a turd compared to the current handguns on the market.

Love my CZ-75B, and can't wait to get another 9mm to compare it to, I just love the look and feel of it.

Do you have a Glock in 9mm?

Turd or not, I love its looks and will get one hopefully one day if the opportunity is there.

I like Glocks and have a couple but not a fan boy. I've got a G27 with both .40 and 9mm barrels

Oh that's cool, I think my first Glock will be the G17.

I love Glocks but I also love other guns as well.

Okay, they do look good. They just don't shoot that great.

For looks great/shoots great, find yourself an old school SIG P210. And then go find 2 grand to buy it.

I have a P-226, I purchased new in 1993, with no rail (I don't believe rails were available back then.) It was my first gun. Now everything I buy I compare to that gun, and they all pale in comparison to the P-226. Super accurate, high-cap, super reliable. Amazing gun. I've put at least 7,000 rounds through it and the ONLY problem I had was with an aluminum CCI case that got stuck in the chamber. Only jam ever.

You may not like the new rail, but if you have average size hands, then the newer models may fit your hand better than the older West German models.

Ever since the E2 grip change, the P226 has about the same grip size as a CZ 75B or standard frame Glock.

Before the grip change, it was quite difficult for me to reach the de-cocked trigger for a double action pull.

Don't get me started on the P210; even the new ones are freaking sweet! 😁

I think I'll always be that way with my first gun, my CZ-75B. I am open to just getting a railed version since they are on roster but if I can get a non rail one I'll try that route.
