Default My Marlin 795 vs 2 Ruger 10/22's

No, I'm not trying to start a debate between the two rifles; I just wanted to share a story from my last range trip. It is a comparison between my Marlin 795 and two of my friends' Ruger 10/22's.

Amongst other firearms, my friends brought their 10/22's. They were shooting at some golf balls that had been thrown on the hill in front of us. They weren't doing too well. I picked up my Marlin and mentioned to the one friend who enjoys golfing, "This is how I golf.." and proceeded to shoot a couple of golf ball 15 yds up the hill.

By the end of the shooting session, the 10/22's were sitting on the bench and they were taking turns shooting my 795. (with my ammo, of course!)

Yes, yes, I know, "Cool story, bro."

You mean 10/22 is not capable of shooting a golf ball at 15 yards?

I shot my ruger 10/22 first time 2 weeks ago. I was punching the same hole on the paper target at 25 yards with my 25 dollar NCStar scope.

I didn't say that. A properly sighted in 10/22 should be perfectly capable of hitting a golfball at 15 yds. What I found funny was that they gave up on their 10/22's and played with my 795. I'm sure if I took a few minutes on their 10/22's, I could've turned them into tack drivers. What I saw was probably more of an issue of the shooters than the equipment.

Optics....No optics.

Were both rifles equally set up and both properly zeroed?

They just want to use your ammo, save their ammo and make you feel good about it. LOL!

Theirs might not have been zeroed in. I didn't pick theirs up so I won't know for sure. Mine does have an inexpensive 3-9x30mm scope on it that I zeroed in 2+ years ago and haven't had to touch the dials since. Whenever I bring it out, I fire a couple of rounds to check that it is still on and then let others shoot with it as lately I've been trying to get some muzzleloaders dialed in.

I love my Marlin 795 , best value for the price! I want to buy a second Marlin during black friday. I feel I can get it for $99 on black friday, i got my current marlin for $119 at turners. I woudlnt mind buying another one at $119, but I am holding out for a black friday $99 sale hahaha

Marlin was very accurate! I couldnt miss once I zeroed in my Nikon scope. So much fun! I dont think I would ever buy a ruger, I am happy with the marlin. Ruger is a great .22lr as well but I just cant see why I would buy one after owning a marlin and buying it for $119.

just my 2 cents

After zeroing the scope @50 yards. CCI Standard. 1 ten shot mag.

Had both my M795 and M60 conversions (see Profile Pic) up at my dad's place and had my nephew and his friend shooting them. Keep in mind both guns have cheap BSA 5 moa red dots on them. These 11 year olds were literally drilling the little squirrel swivel targets at 25 yards standing up free hand with the 5lb P90/795. My brother-in-law then took the FN2000/60 and bounced a 4 in target ball hitting all 14 shots, again off hand standing.

The guns are a lot of fun and remain accurate.

795 mags suck to load.

Also, you may still find marlins made by marlin but the new ones are made by Remington. Rem fired all the previous marlin smiths.

So what if they are hard to load at first? Many magazines are at first.

The important thing is they work, very very well.

I have 2 Remlins, both are perfect. So what if they moved production, so what if they hired new staff. There is nothing wrong with the modern Remlin 795's. (except they cheaped out on the stocks a little and have molded in plastic sling studs now)

Stop spreading unfounded internet Remlin hate.

After loading my M&P40 mags by hand, my 795 mags are a cakewalk to load! Besides, that's how I keep people from burning through the ammo; they have to load their own mags.

One of my friends set his 10/22 down and picked up my 795 because he was having mag issues.

That's what the Baby Uplula is for. Load up 5 mags in nothing flat.

I have nothing against 10/22's, and I may get one at some point to build up a custom project, but I bought Marlin because they are more accurate and half the price. That's hard to argue with.
