Default No CCW exception?

I went hiking yesterday in Fallbrook and before the trail started there was this sign. I looked up the county code 41.117 and couldn’t find a CCW exemption. Anybody know any different? Does this sign have the force of the law?

I would believe there is no exemption. I also seem to remember a case like this going to court and loosing on state preemption. In short, the county/city can ban all weapons with no CCW exemption.

How you handle this is up to you; I know how I would handle it.

Yes it has the force of law. A lot of cities and counties ban guns from parks and public trails. Stupid, but legal.

While this may be true in California only an idiot wouldn’t carry. I always did in other states where you have aggressive brown and black bear and other animals.

In Maine, Alaska, Oregon etc you carry open or concealed. When I hiked on the trails in Alaska I always carried a 45-70.

Maine you always open carry or conceal carry. It’s a way of life here. Nobody bats an eye if you walk down the street with an ak47 with 70 round drum on your back semi or fully automatic.

I would rather have a firearm and not need it than need a firearm and not have one. That’s your best answer for California.

FYI...there was a mountain lion attack in Penasquitos Canyon last year...the point being, if there are lions in Penasquitos, there may certainly be lions in Fallbrook.

That's interesting, I've never noticed that sign. It's ironic since I hike in Fallbrook and used that as part of my GC statement.

There are, and bob cats and other wild animals. Fallbrook is not a safe place to hike unarmed.

Not to start an argument, but I guess that would make me an idiot.
I have been hiking around California my whole life and have never once felt like I needed a gun. Spiders, bees and snakes are the biggest natural threats to your safety in California, and a gun just isn't very useful against any of them.

And seriously, why would you walk down the street with an AK47?

Alaska is a totally different animal, I would carry a gun anywhere outside of town in Alaska.

Past performance is no guarantee of future outcomes. Just because you haven't run into a more dangerous threat in a given amount of time does not mean you have somehow become immune.

I hear ya, but just because one person has been hit in the head with a rock doesn't mean everybody should walk around wearing helmets all day either.
By that logic you would also have to surf with a spear gun...
