Default AB 88 & Semi Belt Feds

Dennis from Midwest Metals is building me a Maxim and it obviously won't be done before July 1st. With AB88, does this mean that I have to cancel my order now that they are considered Assault Weapons? Things like 1919A4's, SG-43's, can no longer be DROS'd after July 1st it seems.

Could you DROS the Maxim receiver then send it back to have the build completed?

Did AB 88 or AB 118 pass? I think no.

The vote is set for 9/1. It will pass. We all know that.

According to this thread, Franklin Armory is still accepting deposits for their “Title 1” firearm. This is the gun that triggered the push to ban non shoulder fired weapons that have a detachable magazine and evil features but aren’t a pistol so I’m guessing they haven’t passed the bill yet.

I don't know how the Maxim would be transfered because there is no "Other" category for DROS. Otherwise the Title 1 could be transferred right now.

SB118 has new dates inside for Sept. 1 , so they're expecting to ban "Other" category assault weapons before that.

There’s a lot of other random garbage in these bills too. One section that jumped out at me says CDCR has to name two prisons for closure and it’s cutting parole from 3-4 years to 2-3 years with an automatic discharge review after 12 months. Yay!! More criminals on the streets. /sarcasm.

Prisoners let out after 12 month reviews.

Is it not obvious that in California 1984 has arrived in full life. Are not the lunatics running the asylums?

Where does this all lead to? It’s crazy.

I suggest the OP repost his question in the ffl forum to see how his issue can be dealt with.

This is probably a dumb question but would AB88 also keep us from being able do a receiver reweld to make semi auto firearms? I ask this because I have a few projects that I’m working on like an M53, Bren, and an IO Sten Mk2 all converted to semi auto. Mostly I’ve been collecting parts I will need and cleaning up slag but maybe now I need to get my butt in gear and finish them all quickly.

1970 I’d say no. Those are straight forward rifles. But forget about ever building legally in Kalifornia any belt fed spade grip weapon which can NOT be converted to shoulder fired featureless like a Sg43, M2HB, 1919, etc. in fact that entire class of weapon will disappear as they are to become Registered assault weapons and would need to be treated as such.

Thanks for clarifying. I wonder if they would allow in a 1919 a6 like what Apex is selling right now since it is technically a shoulder fired weapon with that model’s shoulder stock.

If u can make it featureless you’re good to go. A mg 42 is also an option for that price.

Is already featureless, the pistol grip is already above trigger group.

Tiger pan is correct. Good observation TP. But what about the muzzle device?

Idea here - couldn't we just make a shoulder stock that can be retrofitted onto the back end of spade grip weapons...
