Default Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

It has been virtually one year, two years, six months three years three years, eight months over four years FIVE years last month! [What in tarnation?! How time flies.] since the Inaugural Meeting of the MLC. This fortuitous convention occurred one great day in December, 2018 somewhere in the middle of the southern California high desert...

IMG_1097.jpg

It was a meeting of three middle-aged southern California hombres who had happened to express here on calguns a love for the Marlin lever carbine, for the Winchesters, for the Rossi clone of the Win '92, for the Mirokus, the Ubertis, the Henrys, and so on. These were revolver-caliber carbines. .357, .44, .44-40, .32-20 (for which Colt produced a revolver after the .32 was introduced in 1882 as a metallic cartridge for varmits and from a rifle)... the bottleneck centerfires are of course included; these being the Winchester 1894 in .30WCF and .32WS and the Marlin 336s, then the wondrous! straight wall .45-70 rifle cartridge-chambered Marlin 1895s, etc. Anything, really, stoked by a lever.

Edit:

Modification requested to the requirements. I propose that should someone merely own a Winchester 1887, they be eligible for enrollment, as I do not believe that something as simple as rifling should be used to keep us apart.
Lever-operated shotguns! by all means shall be included and by their very nature as lever operated lead-chuckers. A superb observation.

While no shotgun, this Marlin Model 1895 with it's 405 grain lead slug carries a similar payload:

IMG_1100.jpg

The three miscreants in question are: 1. golfish, Chairman... 2. pennstater, Vice President Hospitality Operations... and 3. Apples, Chief Cook and Bottle Washer.

In the interim a few photos were posted, comments were made and other like-minded men joined in to celebrate with us their love for the lever carbine. These fine souls of men (and women, should they ever appear), we have accepted with open arms and with open beers into The Fold. Well, I'm the resident teetotaler, so, there's that. At least my arms remain loaded open. I digress...

IMG_1266.jpg

Some of these lever-lovin' fools lived to the far, far north! (Spyder and his ilk) and because of their distance we bestowed upon them the prefix "Honorary" member of the Mojave Lever Crew... this became a bother, sorting this person from that, so, after a top-secret meeting in a classified location, the MLC Advisory Board, Membership Division has done away! with this tragic designation and have now decreed all present and future members as simply "Mojave Lever Crew".

I could go on...

Cheers!

This made my day.

Having met and shot with 200apples, if he’s any indicator of the type of person the rest of the MLC folks consist of, I absolutely look forward to the time where I have a chance to hit the range with you all, leverguns a plenty.

Waiting to pick mine up Saturday with LUCK.
I went back to look at the Martini and it was gone but low and behold there was another one there just not a nice as stock.
SOOO I bought it,Martini Cadet with modified stock in 218 bee, marked with the Aussie trademarks 22 inch barrel and a added sight base.Seems they last made them in 1939 with a 75k or so production not many unmolested ones out there most were used in all types of applications some are even barreled in .357.I duuno I always run across oddball stuff.

Ugh I’d love to find a decent cadet locally - nice score!

I’ve got an antique martini half put together with a .30-40 krag Palma barrel that I’ve had for years and have yet to finish and shoot...should probably work on that first though.

Wait...since falling block single shots all have a lever...do those count too?

BOBGBA shouldn't be forgotten. Oversight, I'm sure. If there's a roll call, Bob needs to be on the list. Doing stuff right now, I'll weigh in more later. Gawd, I hate this "stay at home" crap.

I made the list!!! Always have been a bit of a cowboy at heart though my hip issues preclude me from riding a horse. In a SHTF scenario the first two guns I take is my 1873 and GP-100 though I would try to bring at least one of my CZs with me.

I would like to join even though I'm a loooong way from the Mojave Desert.

My lever actions:

1) Marlin 1936 in 30-30 (inherited from my Dad and my first deer rifle).
2) Marlin 336 in 30-30 (wanted a modern version of the 1936).
3) Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt.
4) Marlin 39A (my first new Marlin lever action).
5) Rossi 92 stainless in .454 Casull (a work in progress).

Wanting to add to the list:

Uberti, Cimarron or Winchester 1873, color case hardened in .357 Magnum.

Agreed Mark.( name on top). I'm just going to have some fun with this. That's what it's all about. I cannot wait to shoot my Henry .45Colt again! Might be a bit hot in the desert, but, we will see. To the Mojave!

D'OH! Bob, forgive me. In my morning rush to complete the first post while gathering other names I had assumed I'd had you listed.

Your glory has been restored! sir. My honor, on the other hand...

bergman bergmen! and Epaphroditus! have been added also.

I seem to remember another high desert dweller in active possession of lever carbines, a certain cannon. Hope he will comment here so that we may add him.

pd5190, welcome aboard!

Although this was never our intention, it is nice to see so many concur that the lever gun remains not only evocative, but effective.

This makes our number twenty! like-minded souls.

Great read Apples!! Very well written.

Yah MLC

My entries in the MLC registry are as follows:

Win 94 in .30-30

Browning copy of Win 1895 in .30-06

Browning BLR in .243

Marlin 1894C in .45 Colt

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in .45-70

And since Cali is a joint property state I must include the wife's Uberti 1873 in .357 mag

There are also three Henry's of the rimfire variety to round out the assortment.

Wants: Savage 99 and a Browning BL .22 and a Browning BR 92 in either .357 (yeah right find one of those) or .44 mag.

Gratuitous lever pics:

The wife has my back with the Guide Gun while I'm fixing fence on the back side of our ranch where the lions, tigers and bears, oh my, are.

Not really, she was just holding it while I adjusted my saddle from a steep climb. But the above makes a better story.

This is the greatest thing I've seen, Period. How does one get added to this list of badasserey? I would love to be a part of your next event and meet some of you! I already venture to the high desert to do my shooting as it is. I my self own many firearms but the lever gun is and always will be my favorite. Proud owner of a JM barreld 336 and see a .357 1894 in my near future.

Welcome, rhino!

That's a fine example. Just fine!

Unless you tell us otherwise, we'll assume it is chambered in .30-30. If it's a .35 Remington, I will be green with envy.

Question-For those of us who live a good distance away from the MLC Mojave range, is there a town with a motel(s) nearby where we can arrive say the day before then have a meet up the morning of the shoot and caravan in to the sacred grounds?

Here's a fine example of a lever that's available in in Simi Valley and it's in .35 Rem! https://www.gunbroker.com/item/866742144
High Res pictures of it: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...I3UHFLblR6aVNR

Honestly, I'm not a shill for these guys, they just seem to have gotten some nice levers in and I want the MLC to get a crack at them! Somebody, hide my wallet! Please!

Here's the levers that they have (12 levers, 8 different calibers): https://www.gunbroker.com/Lever-Acti...27&PageSize=24

Ah yes oh master of the google fu. My fault. I didn't mention all the details. He is looking for one of the modern Miroku (Winchester or Browning) takedowns in .30-40. My bad for not providing all the specifics!

I doubt there's anything wrong with your google-fu.
I thought that the search I did was too easy.
I had no luck finding a Miroku.........

I have two lever guns. This thread is making me want to fulfill a long held desire to add a third, fourth, and fifth lever gun. Those guns will cost me money and require a another safe. Everyone posting here is responsible for encouraging me to do this. You may be hearing from my wife...the guns I can sneak in easily... it's that darn expansion safe that she'll notice.

My brother was a gunsmith and he made himself a Cadet in .218 Mashburn Bee, with a 20 inch half round/half octagon stainless barrel and refinished the wood. He put a peep sight on it and it was a fun ground squirrel gun.

^ ^ ^ Hunter! You're most welcome.

Jeepergeo, welcome! We're adding you to the MLC membership roll.

The rest of your post is too funny.

nickel plate, do you want the space between the two words of your username? You typed "nickelplate". I usually have a better eye for this detail. I have made at least three or four mistakes when transcribing I thought I wouldn't make. There's a lot goin' on in the household here these two mornings. Murphy's Law...

Here's a fine example of a lever that's available in in Simi Valley and it's in .35 Rem!
Oh, good grief! You're no help at all! THANK YOU.

That's gonna have to sit there or get snatched up by someone else before I can submit any bids. I have residential infrastructure priorities at the moment.

My bad. There is a space between nickel and plate.

Once you start reading these MLC threads, you're infected and there is no cure!

You can try and go cold turkey, by refusing to read any more MLC posts, but it won't last. The addiction takes root fast and the roots go to deep.

There is no escaping this lever affliction.
