Default LEO'S On Duty/Off Duty/Backup Weapons...show/tell us what you got...

Hello fellow Calgunners, thought I'd make a thread for all Current and Retired LEO'S to post there pictures and talk about what you carry(ied) on/off duty and any backup guns.

Thanks and look forward to hearing/seeing pictures of your current/former carried guns. Stay safe out there! Blessed are the Peacemakers...Matthew 5:9

Gen5 G17 MOS with RMR on duty and G19 with RMR off duty. I just purchased the P320 and P365xl to evaluate. Iím gonna run it through itís paces and see which one Iíll go with.

Duty gun has stippling, double under cut, and extended factory controls. Itís got about 7k rounds through and the trigger just keeps getting better and better. The recoil spring has broken in to making it just plain fun to shoot.

Very cool, thanks for sharing guys!

@Bigdawg90...wow super cool modifications to your guns. 7k rounds...yep its definitely broken in now and like you said it will only get better. Yeah a few of the Deputies I work with bought p365's and sold their shields...even though I like and own the shield the 365 is just a better gun overall...especially for off duty carry.

Primary is a Gen4 G17 with factory night sights and TLR1-HL. I put my own grip tape on it similar to the Talon grips. Haven’t counted how many rounds are down the pipe, but I’m willing to be it’s in the 10k+ range.

The only thing I’d like to put on there are TruGlo sights. I have them on my Gen5 G17 and they’re amazing. I’m just being cheap and not wanting to spend the money on my issued gun. Haha. I keep my guns pretty simple.

I carry anything from my G17, G19, G43, LCR, etc. It just depends on how I’m feeling that day.

I'm waiting for my 6390rds, so I can make the switch.

Gen 4 Glock 35 with weapon mounted Streamlight TLR-1 HL in a Safariland Level III holster. Sig P365 back-up carried tucked in the inside of our exterior ballistic vest.

Our department is transitioning from the G22 to the Gen 5 G17 RMR. Once that happens, I may go to my Gen 5 G19 as a back up gun in order to have redundant magazines/ammo.

CCW/off-duty carry G19, G23, Sig 365 or S&W 642

I was issued a S&W model 67 revolver with 2 speed loaders when I was hired in 1986.

In late 80s, I was issued a Beretta 92FS with 3 magazines.

In 2013, I was issued a S&W M&P9 with 5 magazines and Surefire X-300 Ultra.

For a back up gun, I carried a S&W model 42 5 shot revolver.

I was able to buy all 3 issued firearms from the department, along with a department Ithaca model 37 shotgun when they switched over to Remington 870.

Issued a S&W Mod. 10, 6 inch in the academy, 1981. Upon graduation I bought a S&W Mod. 19, 6 inch to replace Mod 10. Also bought Walther PPK/S as an off duty / back up gun.

Carried both until we were authorized to transition to semi autos, early 90's maybe. I bought a SIG P226. Carried that until 1911's became authorized, 2003 maybe.

I started carrying my Springfield Armory 1911, until retirement 2009. Also bought a S&W 340PD for off duty around 2006.

Off duty I have carried, PPK/S, P226, 340PD, and 1911.
Retired I carry 340PD or 1911.

How would you rate the two for ccw size and how well you like to shoot them? I was able to get a 320 pre covid prices and want a 365 but not sure if its worth it for what it costs a non exempt person to get their hands on one.

P365 is very easy to conceal. I can pocket carry it when I wear gym shorts on hotter days and I have an Alien Gear IWB holster on the days I wear pants to loop it on my belt. However if I wear pants, I prefer the 320 compact because I can get a much better grip on that and have a higher capacity. If I had to pick one, I'd go 365 cause of the variety ways to carry it. I would prefer to shoot the 320 though. My .02

Now I know I'm Not an official LEO, but I'm as close to being one as you can. I work as a Sheriff's Security Officer for The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. We are fully Armed, everything a LEO carries and have our 832 PC (40 hours training arrest and control, and 40 hours training in firearms) during our 5 week Academy. There's even current LEO positions within the State that only have they're 832 PC as well.

So what LASD issues us and what Sheriff's Security Officers are allowed to carry is the Smith and Wesson M&P 9, the M&P 9 2.0, and the Beretta 92FS 9mm. Unfortunately we haven't been issued our CCW's by LASD yet, but our Union is working on it.

I carry an LASD issued vintage 1993 Beretta 92FS 9mm, thousands of rounds throughout it without an issue. Love this gun so much I bought my own 92FS. We're supposed to be upgrading to the M&P9 2.0 Department wide, Deputies first, then Security Officers. I'm reluctant to give up my Beretta 92FS, guess I kinda feel like most Officers back in the 80's when they had to transition from revolvers to semi-autos.

Oh very cool, yeah I knew a few Safety Officers like yourself when I came on ten years ago. After my Academy I was sent to County Services Bureau and worked out of Harbor UCLA Medical Center and Long Beach Health Clinic, some crazy stories but good experiences. I learned to write my very first parking citation by a retired now, former Safety Officer, funny story I actually ended up giving his own daughter a parking citation one day haha. I was the last of the newly hired Security Officers to replace and transition the Safety Officers at Harbor UCLA, there was alot to learn and again really good field experience.

Thanks, hope we get them and yes politics, no escaping that haha.
